YAZMIN:
"We can go tomorrow morning." He said.
I smiled. I stood quiet for a moment. "Are you hungry?" He asked. "No" I responded.
I walked toward the corner of the room and sat down. My eyelids felt heavy. I pulled my knees up to my chest and wrapped my arms around my legs.
He went to the door and stood in front of it. "Are you leaving?" I said.
"No just making sure it's locked". I couldn't help but smile. "The walls are falling apart and you think the lock is gonna save us?" I responded.
He lowered his head in sorrow.
"I'm sorry I didn't mean to make you feel dumb".
He looked up at me. " No it's not that" he said as he walked over and sat a few feet away. "Both my parents died" he said as he looked away. "Life is tough."
"To Allah we belong and to Allah we shall return." I quietly replied.
His eyes filled with tears. He put his head against the wall. "Don't feel sad. Allah is testing you. He only tests those he loves." I said.
He looked at me "They were martyred, we should be jealous of them." He said smiling. "May Allah forgive them."
He took off his jacket and stood up. "It's cold. You better wear this." He reached over to give me his jacket.
"No it's ok really, I'm not cold. Thank you."
"Just take it." He said. I took it and put it on. It felt warm and smelled like cologne. I put my head on the floor and closed my eyes.
