It was another early morning at the Hyena's den, and the queen laid against the thick tree at the center of its entrances. There were many Hyenas going about their day: some talking, others hauling their meals, and many others doing things she didn't care to keep track off. What interested her at this moment was a pair of test subjects: Kyle, and Serena. As per their schedule, it was breakfast time, and Serena was once again attempting to start the fire while Kyle sat nearby and scratched at his new beard. The swelling on his face had completely disappeared, and the purple bruises were almost gone.
"<Come on...I know you want to...>" Serena's focus was intense.
"<My queen.>" Kyle's guard called out behind the queen.
"<What?>"
"<Your squad is ready to depart.>"
"<Understood. I'll be right there.>"
With her duty fulfilled, the smaller female prepared to walk back to the queen's squad, but inner curiosity stopped her in her tracks.
"<Permission to ask a question, my queen?>"
"<Spit it out.>" Still, the queen's eyes did not leave the pair by the campfire.
"<It's been a while since you last talked to the sky dweller. Twenty rotations as a matter of fact.>"
"<Get to the point.>"
"<I was just wondering what your plan is.>"
"<My plan?>"
"<Well, yeah. He almost killed you. Now, you're slowly letting him get stronger. It just doesn't make any sense.>"
"<I'm not slowly letting him get stronger. I'm observing him.>"
"<Observing him?>" The guard joins the queen in observing the two.
"<Do you think I picked a male lover like Serena at random, Janine?>"
"<OH YEAH!>" Serena's fire came to life. "<Fastest time so far!>"
"<Good!>" Kyle extends his hand for a high five, which she abuses with a strong slap that sends him back.
'<What did he call that again?>' Serena asked, looking at his palm.
Janine looks over at the queen in confusion.
"<I don't get it.>"
"<My mom used to tell me to look before you dominate. Understand who it is you're trying to control. If you don't, you could die; and what do you know. Twenty rotations ago, I almost proved her right.>" The fire from Kyle's right hand was burned into her mind.
"<So that's why you took a big step back.>" Janine looked at Serena. "<But why use her in this plan of yours?>"
"<Look at them.>" The queen sees Kyle cover his mouth after releasing a burp. In response, Serena released a burp so powerful, Kyle could feel its vibrations on the ground.
"<Aw! Nasty!>" Yet Kyle couldn't help but laugh along with Serena.
"<They're getting too close for my liking.>" Janine commented. "<They shouldn't be laughing together! He should be under her foot!>"
"<I don't like it either, but Serena's weakness is the only way we're gonna be able to learn about the sky dweller.>" The queen's eyes narrow as she looks at his smiling face. "<Once I know his weaknesses, he will be mine.>"
