As soon as I pulled into a parking spot, I noticed Jack's leg moving up and down rapidly.

He was chewing on his bottom lip and fidgeting with the bracelets around his wrists. I placed my hand on his shoulder, causing him to look up at me.

"You alright?" I asked.

He took a deep breath, "I'm nervous."

Leaning across to kiss his cheek, I couldn't help but laugh. His face was one I hadn't seen before, looking like a deer in headlights.

I stepped out of the car, causing him to do the same. As we started walking to the doors of the dentist's office, he took a hold of my hand and squeezed it tightly.

He practically dragged me to the front desk with him. The receptionist was a sweet looking old lady whose name tag read, "Betty", smiled at us brightly.

"What can I do for ya?"

Jack nudged my shoulder gently, indicating that he wanted me to speak.

"He has an appointment to get his wisdom teeth removed today. " I smiled.

She let out a small laugh, clearly noticing Jack's nerves, "Name?"

"Jack Hughes." He mumbled loud enough for her to hear.

Typing on her keyboard, she clicked on a few things before handing me a clipboard, "Are you the wife?"

I chuckled, "Uh, no. Just the girlfriend."

Betty's eyebrows furrowed together as her eyes darted to my hand. She looked at Jack, then back at me.

"But, there's a ring on your finger."

Finally, Jack piped up, "It's a promise ring."

I could tell the poor lady was even more confused. Her face was a mix of confusion, amusement, and something else.

"Now I don't know what the hell a promise ring is, but back in my day the real men would just ask their women to marry them." She explained, smile not leaving her face.

Neither one of us had the chance to say a thing before she started explaining to me what I would  be signing. As she was going this, one of the doors leading to the back opened up.

"Hughes?" The dentist yelled, causing Jack to turn his head almost immediately.

I squeezed Jack's hand, "I love you."

"I love you, too." He said, before walking over.

I sat in the lobby for about an hour, mindlessly scrolling on my phone. Eventually, the same dentist that took Jack came back out.

"Hughes?"

Standing up, I walked over to him and he introduced himself. He led me to the back where Jack was. As soon as I entered the room he was in, I immediately heard his babbling.

Walking in front of him, I placed my hand on top of his. He quickly pulled away, not realizing who just touched him. His eyes shot open as we made eye contact.

"Woah." He said through the gauze in his mouth.

"Hey."

He didn't say anything before reaching out his hand to touch my cheek.

"He'll be a bit loopy for the next couple of hours. We'll bring you a paper with instructions on his medicine and what he can eat. The nurse will be in here soon." The dentist explained, before walking out.

Jack's eyes never left my face, making me laugh. I grabbed his hand and took it off my cheek.

"You're so pretty." He babbled.

I smiled, "Thanks, you're not so bad yourself."

His eyes slowly closed, then opened right back up, "Do you have a boyfriend?"

"I do. He's the best." I laughed.

Jack's smile fell almost instantly. "Damn."

The nurse walked in, smiling at me. I smiled back and stepped away from Jack to let her do her job.

"I'm just here to change his gauze and then I can help you guys to your car." She explained.

As soon as her hands got close to Jack's mouth, he moved back quickly.

He shook his head with his eyes closed, "No. I want the pretty girl to do it."

Even though I knew he had no idea what he was saying, my eyes widened at his statement.

"Jack, she knows what she's doing. Just let her do her job."

He let out a loud and dramatic gasp, "You know my name!"

My hand ran though my hair, "Yes, I do. Now can you please let her change your gauze?"

"Okay. But just because I like you."

I smiled apologetically at the nurse, who was smiling, clearly unaffected by Jack's comments.

She quickly took them out and threw them away before putting new ones in. Handing me a bag and 3 papers stapled together, she explained to me what the next few hours would look like, how long it would take for the anesthesia to wear off, and what he could and couldn't eat.

Pulling the wheelchair over, she helped Jack into it before following me to the car. We both helped him into the seat, which he gladly flopped into.

As soon as I got into the driver's seat, Jack's hands were all over me. Not wanting to forget any of this, I set my phone up and started recording.

"Why are you recording? You wanna make a film or something?" He smirked.

My jaw dropped, "No!"

"Yeah you do." He laughed.

I rolled my eyes and pulled out of the space, starting our drive home.

Jack retreated into his own space before spewing out some more nonsense. "So is your boyfriend from here?"

"Not from here, but he lives here." I explained.

He rolled his eyes, "Well I'm from all around. I could show you the world."

Smiling, I decided to play along. "Oh yeah? Where are you from?"

"Florida. But also Canada. But also Michigan."

I gasped dramatically, "Oh wow. Impressive."

He grinned, "I know! But tell me more about his boyfriend."

"Well, he's also from Florida, Canada, and Michigan. He has beautiful brown hair, blue eyes, and he's pretty tall. He's also pretty good at hockey."

A look of confusion appeared on his face. I couldn't help but laugh when he dramatically turned to look at me with wide eyes and an open mouth due to the gauze.

"You just described me."

I looked at him, then turned back to the road. "Did I?"

He nodded rapidly, "Yeah! Wait.."

His hands opened up my glove box and dug around. He made a mess of everything in there but eventually pulled out two small polaroids I kept in there.

One was of him and I at a friend's wedding, and the other was a bit... suggestive. Thankfully he didn't show the camera.

"I'm your boyfriend?!" He gasped.

I laughed and nodded. He let out a loud, "Woo!" before putting down the polaroids and leaning back in his chair.

His neck was on full display as he leaned his head back and looked up at the roof of my car.

"I'm a lucky guy." He mumbled before letting his head drop and his eyes closed.
