Chapter

Two hours later, I left the library and headed for the gym. It was surprisingly warm outside. Darn this weather. Cold one minute and hot the next. This morning for instance, it was so cold you’d think that we were in the North Pole, and now it’s warm as though during the day the Earth rotated and place us in the equator. The school was empty. I was the only one walking on campus. I felt so alone.
I spotted him with two Vipers. His back to me but the Vipers’ expression were strained. I wondered what he was telling them. I noticed that they were the same one that had attacked me not to many days ago. Before I even reached them, the Vipers left. I walked towards him; he still had his back to me. After a long while, he tensed and spun to face me.
“Heartwarming reunion between master and minions. How touching”
“Calantha” he sighed…in relief? For what?
“A good evening to you I hoped.”
He walked towards me with a smiled on his face. “Indeed” he said when he reached me. I took a step backward, putting some distance between us. He looked at the distance between us then lifted his gaze to stare at me. In that moment there was a sudden glint of wickedness in his gold eyes as he step towards me again. Grrr. I will not back down. I will not frigging back down.
“What? No backing away?” he asked with a mocking edge in his tone.
“You are very infuriating.”
“And you are very complicated.”
“How am I complicated? Here I am standing right in front you, why? Because you have something to explain to me, no. and now you’re in my face telling me that I am complicated. Why is that?”
He opened his mouth to answer but I beat him to it. “Look, let just get to the point ok? What. Happen. On. Saturday?”
He step back and said, “I took you home and saw you to your door, that’s it.”
“I’m having a hard time believing that.”
“What do you not believe? I promise you, nothing more happen.”
“No,” I shook my head. “Something happen. What did I drink at the club?”
“It was juice.” He answered quickly. My guess is that he’s rehearsed how to answer my questions and he expected that sort of question from me.
“No. it wasn’t juice at all. I woke up in the morning and almost die. Almost die. You gave me something to drink and don’t bother denied it because I know.” I said when he opened his mouth to say something. “And stupid that I was even though I knew I shouldn’t have drunk it but I did anyway and it almost killed me.”
“It almost killed you?” he asked as his eyes narrowed.
“You have an excellent hearing.”
He opened his mouth to say something but something seemed to have hit him and he said, “What do you mean by it almost kill you?”
“Don’t play dumb with me Didier. Though you probably think I’m dumb, which in turn does not bothered me because I don’t care what you think of me,” I added when he opened his mouth to protest. “You know what I’m talking about. And I know you know that I know what you really are. You are not human and don’t even think to deny it because I can tell. Unfortunately, I was born with this cursed ability. And I wished it wasn’t with every bone in my body.” Every nerve in my body screamed at me to shut up but I wouldn’t—couldn’t. Didier was looking at me with an unreadable look. His face expressionless.
