Chapter 13
A splitting headache was the first thing that welcome when I opened my eyes. I gingerly touched the back of my head only to pull away my hand as pain registered. My head felt like it was splitting in two but I pushed myself up anyway. Slowly, I looked at my surrounding. It didn’t take me long to remember the events that led to my head bump or to determine that wherever I was, it definitely was not my room. For one thing, the walls were painted black and there seemed to be neon white light lining the corners. Seriously, who painted their walls black? No matter how much someone’s favorite color was black, it was not common sense to paint your walls black. But I had to admit that the neon light added a very cool effect to it. I felt like I was momentarily transported to the world of Tron Legacy.
My hand was touching something soft and I realized that I was lying on a colossal four poster bed draped in what looked to be black silk. Loving the sensation of the silk cover against my body, I tentatively slide out of the bed. I have got to get me one of those sheets. If I ever get out of here. I didn’t even know where I was.
As I step on the warm tiled floor, it lit up. Wow. Someone was wealthy. It wasn’t every day you find yourself stepping onto motion light sensor tiled floor. My head throbbed for a second before I steadied myself. I looked around me, curious to learn about my captor. The walls were paneled and there was no indication of any door. I figured one of the panels must be a way to get out. The only furniture in the whole room was the bed and two egg chairs facing a minimalist coffee table with built in fireplace, although I was sure that whoever occupied this room would have had no need for it. The two sides of the room were covered in draped one of them being the one facing the two egg chairs. I did not bother looking behind them because I knew what I was going to find was not going to be there. That leaves me with two choices. I chose the most likely one. I headed toward the wall right across the bed. With every step I take the tile lit up under my feet, giving me enough light to see where I was stepping. I approached each panel and lightly ran my hand over each, pressing as I go; hoping that one of them would open. To my surprised, when I reached the third panel to the right, I pressed like I did all the other, but unlike all the other, it opened. I was so surprised that it took a while to comprehend what happened but once my brain caught up, I did not hesitate stepping in the dimly lit hallway. Much like the room, the walls were black with the top and bottom corners lined with neon white light. Again the tile floor light up as I step on them. The hallway ended at T and I turned right.
When in doubt go right. Works every time. I was exploring the hall when it opened up into what look like to be a living room. With the same concept as the bedroom and the hallway, a white sectional couch with black trim sat facing a wall size fireplace. I tentatively stepped into the room and immediately felt a chill. Walking closer toward the fireplace in the hope of getting warmer, I heard a noise.
“Welcome to my humble abode.” I pivoted toward the deep timbre of the voice and stifled a gasp. His white hair was such a contrast to the black clothes he was wearing. His eyes were as black as his hair was white and he was tall. Tall and muscular. The black shirt he was wearing clung to his chest and hugged his biceps. Overall, he looked intimidating. But then he smiled and a chill swept through me. His dark didn’t seem to miss anything and when he saw my reaction his smile broaden. Quickly I suppressed the shudders that were racking my body and replied to his statement.
“A king stepping down from his throne to sleep in a shack is humble. The rich man stepping out of his skyscraper to accept aid from the lowliest poor is humble. However, what you got here is the farthest from your statement as it could get.”
