Lachlan's POV:

After Simon's session, I just took the chance to write down some notes, I was not going to share any specifics or conversations that happened as that is between Simon and I, but I do have to report any progress made during the meetings, and for this one, I just wrote down that he was willing to use the paints and express himself through art. It had made me happy to see Simon's willingness to engage in Art Therapy, and him confiding a few of his emotions really made the session a success.

After jotting down the notes, I went over to the covered garden to make sure that the rain wasn't blowing in towards the seats where Preston and I would be shortly. The area we would be seated in was dry, so I quickly went to grab the notebook for my observations on Preston and then up stairs to his room and knocked on his door. It was about five minutes early, but we had to walk out to the garden anyway.

"Good morning Lachlan." Preston said quietly as he came out of his room.

"Good morning Preston." I responded, smiling at him. "Are you ready to go out to the garden?" I asked, confirming that this was still what he wanted to do today. He nodded in response and we headed off to the garden. The garden was beautiful, and despite the rain, it was still nice out. There was a light breeze which just brought the scent of the flowers to you and it was a nice change from being inside the facility, and I always love bringing patients out here. The garden's covered space has plenty of flowers in the beds made for them, and there are fairy lights around the cover of the area.

Preston opened his notebook and began writing. I just sat in silence with him for a while. I always let Preston be the first to initiate conversations during his sessions, in the past if I pushed to communicate, I found it made him shut down rather than feel comfortable speaking.

"Lachlan," Preston said quietly, I turned my attention to him. "I wrote about meeting Rob this week and how it was scary to connect with a new person at first, but now I'm starting to realize he's my friend." He confided in me. This made me extremely happy to hear. His progress has been increasingly strong over the past month in comparison to his first 3 months here.

"That's great Preston," I said, I always tried to match his tone and speak softer. "I'm glad you're making friends, that's amazing." I told him. He beamed, he was so proud of himself and I was too. He started to tell me all about Rob and the things they would talk about and he got excited and it was so refreshing to see Preston come out of his shell more and more. To think that even just two months ago he would just sit by himself at meal times, and now he has a friend.

After an hour of writing and talking to me, we went back inside and he opted to go to the common area until lunch. I headed over to my desk that was neatly organized to fill out my paper for Preston's one-on-one to give to Dr. Reid. My desk is in the corner of the office, so it's easier for me to sit and focus without being able to just look around the room.

The half hour before lunch passed by incredibly quickly and I went to take Preston and Harry up for lunch. I saw Preston go to sit with his new-found friend, Rob and I could see Vik smile at the two of them sat together the same as I was. Harry went to sit with Josh and JJ and many of the other patients were sitting with each other as well. For a moment, I felt sad that Simon had to sit and eat lunch alone in his room. Though I understood the reasons behind it, no one deserved to be alone all the time. After shaking the thought from my head, I went over to sit with Tobi and Vik for lunch.

"Hey guys!" I said, sitting across from the two of them.

"Hey Lachlan!" Tobi piped up and Vik smiled at me.

"How was your first one-on-one with Simon?" Vik asked. Tobi leaned in as he was curious as well.

"I think it went well," I paused. None of us ever shared details from these experiences, but we would tell each other if we felt our patients were making progress. "I think if I give him time, he'll progress at his own rate like all the other patients." I smiled.
