Lachlan's POV:

I walked outside to take a breather from my job before having to serve my patients dinner. I took a seat on a bench near the water and dropped my head into my hands, sighing deeply. Today has been a whirlwind of emotions. I'm extremely proud of the progress Preston has been making recently, of course he still has some ground to cover, but seeing the progress he's already made reminds me why I'm here. Harry is getting better too, and hearing him apologize to me today was such a big step forward.

Being assigned to Simon though, how am I supposed to reach him? He doesn't seem so violent in that room he's in, but seeing the news outlets reporting on him. I then heard the buzz of my walkie-talkie snapping me out of my thought, Mia was calling me back up to the building, I responded to let her know I was on my way. Was this about Simon? Is one of my patients getting discharged soon? Who knows with this place. I walked into the office to be greeted by both Mia and the institute's lead psychiatrist, Dr. Reid, who had a serious look on his face.

"Lachlan, please take a seat as we have some important information to discuss regarding the care of your patient, Simon Minter." Dr. Reid informed me. I gulped and sat across from them. "I've gone over Simon's file and we believe there is more we can provide him here. You see, Mr. Minter responds well to empathy and compassion, and we believe that if we can give him a new outlet for his anger to be let out, it could improve his mental health tremendously."

I took a minute to process what exactly I was hearing. "So are you asking me to spend more time with Simon on a day to day basis? sort of how Preston uses art as an outlet, you want me to try that with Simon?" I asked, curious if that could possibly help

"Essentially, the easy answer is yes. Lachlan, your compassion could play a key role in getting Mr. Minter on a road to recovery and give him the chance to be out in the real world without being a danger to others. We believe that using Art Therapy and Music Therapy in combination with his Cognitive-behavioral Therapy could be very beneficial to him." Dr. Reid explained to me, this was not a foreign method for us to use, but using it with a serial killer seemed risky to me, but if it meant helping a patient, I would do it.

"And Lachlan," Mia continued, and I looked over to her. "If you're worried about your safety, these sessions with Simon and yourself will be closely observed to maintain your safety as well as Simon's." I nodded, I understood the risks involved, but I also knew that Simon needed the extra help. "So, are you willing to help us start a new path for Simon's treatment?" Mia asked.

"I'm willing to help out and do the sessions with Simon, he needs the help and if I can provide it, then that's what I'm here for." To this, Dr. Reid smiled and handed over the paperwork for me to look over and sign, admitting that I knew the dangers of this and that I could back out at any point if I felt the need to. I signed the necessary documents and it was official, Simon's sessions would start after dinner tonight.

Before dinner, I go up to the cafeteria and grab Simon's tray, bringing it down to his room. I knock on the door letting him know I'm about to enter. As I walk in and set his tray down, I see he's still looking out the window.

"Hello Lachlan." He says to me without turning his head. "Thank you for bringing my dinner." he says.

"Hi Simon, not a problem, if you need anything before I come back just press the button and I'll be back." I responded with a small smile, trying to show compassion. He turned to me, smiled and nodded. I left his room and left to take Preston and Harry up to dinner with the others. Seeing Preston be more interactive with those around him was so amazing, his progress was reminding me why I worked here. I looked over to see Harry talking with another patient as well, smiling and laughing, and it was inspiring seeing what was to come for the rest of my night.
