Lachlan's POV:
Okay Lachlan... just breathe. It's all gonna be fine. I had Simon's lunch in my hands and the taser in my pocket. I opened the door and he was just sitting there. He didn't move, just sat there. He looked like any normal person, but, then again, so do all of the patients here.
"Simon, your lunch is here." I say. I try to sound normal, like I'm not scared. He turns around with a smile on his face. I hand him his lunch and he starts eating. I leave the room. What has my life come to? I have to help a serial killer... I walk over to Preston's room and knock. It opens. He smiles at me and lets me in.
"Hi Lachlan." He says quietly. I smile at him.
"Hey Preston. It's almost lunch time. He nods. He shows me some of his drawings. He's very talented. I leave and go to check on Harry. I knock and he opens the door. He seems to be in a better mood now.
"Hey Harry, lunch is soon." He smiles.
"Thanks Lachlan, I'm sorry for being grumpy earlier."
"It's all good, we all have bad days." I smile at him and I walk away. I take a few more deep breaths. I sit in the office filling out paperwork for about 15 minutes and then go to check on Simon. I knock on the door then open it. He looks at me with a weird smile.
"What's your name?" He smirks at me. I feel uncomfortable, but he just asked a question.
"Lachlan." I say. Keep your guard up Lachlan, don't let him know you're scared of him. He nods.
"I like that," he pauses to look at me again. "It's very unique." I give a small smile at his compliment... at least, I think it's a compliment.
"Thank you." His smirk turns into what seems like a genuine smile. He looks towards the window. Sometimes I wonder what it's like to be a patient. They're here to get better and I need to make sure I'm doing the best I can to help them get better. I take his tray. "Do you need anything before I go?"
"Can I get some water please?" He asks, turning back to me. I nod. I walk away and shut the door behind me. I take his tray up to the cafeteria and grab a water bottle for Simon. I go back and open the door. He seems to daydream a lot. He looks over at me.
"Thank you." He says as I hand him the bottle.
"No problem, it's my job." I say.
"Why would you want to help people like me?" He asks.
"I don't really know." I state. "I guess I like to think I can help people get better so that they can go back home." He nods. I leave the room and go back to my paperwork. About 20 minutes before Lunch. I plug headphones in and go through my paperwork. Sign, sign, sign, and sign some more.
After I finished the paperwork I went to get Preston and Harry. I knock on Preston's door. He comes out knowing it's lunch time. I go to get Harry. I knock and the door swings open.
"Ready for lunch?" I ask. He nods in response and we go out to the cafeteria. I sat with Vik and Tobi again. Vikk seems happier than normal.
"Someone's happy." Tobi acknowledges Vik.
"One of my patients gets to go home in a couple days." He beams. Tobi and I smile at him.
"That's amazing" I say.
"Who is it?" Tobi asks
"Mitch." He states happily. "And then he wants to come help out here."
"That's great, we could always use the extra help." Tobi nods in agreement with my statement.
"So Lachy," I turn to Tobi. "How is it taking care of Simon?"
"Uhm..." I think, It's not awful, but I've only helped him once so far. "It's a little weird because he seems to act like nothing happened. But it's not horrible... yet" I mumble the last word.
"I hope you can help him" Vik says in a sweet tone. I smile at him.
"Me too."
"How are your other patients?" Tobi askes
"They're doing good. Preston is getting a lot better. He's starting to talk a lot more than he did before."
"That's great Lachlan" Tobi smiles.
"How are yours Tobi?" Vik questions.
"They're alright. Jerome isn't getting much better though."
"That's sad. Maybe he will soon. He's only been here a few weeks." I say. "All you can do is have hope."
"He's not wrong. Anything can change Tobs. Just have hope and faith." I look at the time and it's time to go. We get the patients back to their rooms and the three of us go for a walk like we do everyday. We laugh and have a great time... until we started walking back.
"Hey Lachlan?" Vik says more like a question.
"Yeah." I responded.
"Are you scared of Simon at all?" He continues and my blood runs cold for the second time today.
"I mean, I have to pretend I'm not, but I don't know, I guess I am a little scared of him." The breeze picks up a little bit and I shiver. As we get closer to the mental facility I can see Simon looking out of his window and he looks right at me and it makes me shiver again. Vik sees me shiver and looks up to see Simon. He gives me a sympathetic look and we go inside. As we get inside and scan our cards to get in, we all go to check on our patients. I just want this day to be over. I go to the common room to see if anyone in there needs anything. I walk in and I see Preston talking to Rob.
"Hey Lachlan" Preston says as he sees me walk in. He's been getting a lot better lately.
"Hey Preston, do you guys need anything?" I give Preston a smile.
"No, we're good. Thank you." He smiles back. I walk away from the common room and go to relax for a little while before dinner.
