Lachlan's POV:

I knocked on Simon's door before going in, he was sitting quietly at his desk and turned to face me as I walked in his room. I sat his lunch on the desk in front of him.

"So, I talked to Dr. Reid about giving you that notebook you asked for." I paused, he looked at me, I could see that he was expecting me to tell him he wasn't allowed to have a notebook. "He said that I could in fact give you the notebook" His head popped back up to look at me, and I could see a small smile spread across his lips. I am still worried about being involved in hiding the notebook. I want to help Simon, but I'm also incapable of shaking the feeling that I'm doing something wrong, even if I am doing what I think is right. "You're not allowed to have pens or pencils according to your chart, so Dr. Reid and I decided that markers were the next best thing." I told him, handing him the notebook and pack of markers I had retrieved not long ago.

"Thank you Lachlan." Simon said, carefully accepting the notebook and markers. I'm hoping that this will help me make progress and gain his trust, even if just a little at a time. All of the anxiety I'm feeling would be worth it if I could gain his trust and help him. After all the research from the night before, I'm not so convinced Simon is really a criminal.

"Of course. There is, not really a catch, but just a precaution Dr. Reid would like us to take." I noted, sitting on the bed in front of Simon, trying to be eye level with him. He gave an unsure nod, signifying to me that he was listening. I could feel the tension in the room, not just because Simon wanted to know the deal, but also because speaking the words to Simon meant that I was really aiding in hiding a notebook from the police. "Dr. Reid would like me to take the notebook if the police come in to question you so that they can't look at it." My palms were clammy and I was tense as I delivered the information. I had been reassured I wasn't going to face any repercussions, but that didn't help ease my anxiety surrounding the situation.

"So you and Dr. Reid are going to keep my notebook if the Police come?" I nodded my head to answer his question, fearing my tongue would fail if I tried to speak again right away. I thought I could see relief and then fear flash across his face. "But does that mean that Dr. Reid or you will look at it and read through it?" I could hear the nervousness in his voice, fearing my own voice might sound similar.

"No, neither Dr. Reid or I will look through your notebook, whatever you write is for your eyes only. The only time we will know what you write in there is if you choose to share anything with us. It's completely confidential." I could see the relief on his face, and was glad he hadn't picked up on my nervousness. As if someone had read my mind, my walky-talky bleeped and I could hear Mia asking me to come to the office. "Be there in just a minute." I responded, standing up from Simon's bed begging my legs to carry me after that conversation. I paused at the door, turning back to Simon. "Anything else you need before I go?"

"No thank you." He responded, turning himself to face his food, and I left him to it. I walked out of Simon's room, sighing in relief that the conversation was over once the door was shut. I'm not sure why I'm so apprehensive about hiding the notebook since I have been reassured that this wasn't going to get me in any trouble, and I was doing the right thing. I made my way over to the office to see what Mia had called me for.

"Hi Lachlan, I just have some paperwork for you to fill out." She handed me the paperwork and I took it over to my desk in the corner, where I tried to calm myself down more. I took a few deep breaths, I knew I was doing the right thing, it's just that there hasn't ever been a case as unique as Simon's here before, at least, not that I've handled. It feels weird to be taking care of someone who most of the country believes is a criminal, but upon meeting him and working with him, it seems like he's not what everyone made him out to be. The past six years the media has made Simon Minter out to be some sort of monster, but in person, he's not like that at all.
