What prompt(s) am I using?
I am using number fifty-nine, "Reincarnating into your favourite story wasn't what you had in mind when begging for a second chance," as the main prompt and number sixty-five, "She realized that whenever she let her body fall slowly to the bed, the bed sank and became a portal to another world."
How am I using the prompts?
Starting with side prompt sixty-five, I am using the prompt as an influence on how they get there, but there is no multiple worlds. As for the main prompt, the main character wants a second chance to confess to his crush, who apparently moved away, not realizing she's fallen into another world, resulting in him to ending up in the Harry Potter universe. The begging part is only briefly mentioned in the first chapter and is turned into wishing upon the star because of the age of the characters.
What is the Upside Down Mirror Universe or UDM?
The Upside Down Mirror Universe is simply a Harry Potter multiverse revolving around the headcanon where Regulus Black lives and is on the autism spectrum where Regulus' understanding of Purebloodism is that those who are superior are meant to protect those inferior to them because of his autism, while him being a part of Voldemort's inner circle has to do with his initial naivety that flees when he learns what he learns as well as the fact he is a very gifted young wizard as well as the current heir of the Black family. And yes, anybody can use this headcanon to write a Harry Potter story.
Is this a sequel? What do I need to know?
Nothing, simply because a sequel for ONC needs to be able to stand on it's own. However, this is a universe where Voldemort is already defeated, something that will be covered later on.
Why is this story rated mature?
- The prequel story is rated mature, and even though this is a stand-alone piece, I prefer not to encourage those under seventeen to circumvent the maturity ratings.
- A couple of the eleven/twelve-year-old characters see dead bodies in the earlier chapters, which ends up being traumatic.
- Accusations of the Black family's reasons for adopting Lyra, in particular Regulus, of having unsavory ulterior motives regarding why she's adopted, ranging from attempting to make the family look better in the public eye, particularly Regulus, to reasons that would be illegal, but these accusations are unfounded and the result of nasty gossip.
- There's an eleven/twelve-year-old character (Demi May) who says some inappropriate things for her age because of the attitude of her mother from the world she comes from, which is not well received. Still, she's also frustrated at the fact she is in this world thought to be blood-related to her crush from the other world while ignoring the fact he has a crush on another girl.
- Lyra and Regulus are having to deal with the PTSD resulting from their broken home lives while trying to be a proper family to each other.
Basically, a lot of baggage is going over the heads of certain younger teens while not going over the heads of others, even though these are important topics to discuss with that age range, particularly with how much is in one story.
Of course, the reasoning for being marked as mature has changed slightly since finishing the story, such as Sirius not ever showing up and I'll be reworking this for when I turn the story in.
And here is the new version...
- First, the prequel is rated mature and while this is a stand-alone piece I don't want to encourage those under seventeen to circumvent the maturity ratings, particularly with this misconception that whether something is young adult/teen fiction is based on the age of the character. And no, the prequel wasn't rated mature for sexual content involving a minor but other reasons.
- One of which involves PTSD responses to tramatic situations from both Regulus and Lyra as well as PTSD issues resulting from their broken home lives.
- Demi May's mother taught her to be a trophy wife where her looks are more important than her brain. Still, she struggles with this mixed messaging when her crush from another world ends up being her brother in this world, for which she's called out on wanting to continue as they don't know whether the two are actually related or not. Still, she also towards the end asks an adult to marry her which leaves the adult very uncomfortable and her being called out for how off-putting this behavior is. She also doesn't understand Narcissa's insistence that she's too young for romance (the sexual kind) because Narcissa is in her mind actively doing what Demi May's mother did with Eugene, not understanding there are very strict rules regarding courting among the pure-bloods, such as what age they may start holding hands even if the marriage is what the families desire as well as the fact a proper marriage is far more than looks. Eugene also doesn't trust her.
- There is some gossip regarding the Black family's intent in adopting Lyra, including the possibility that Lyra is Orion's love child from an affair which Orion points out all the rumors are insensitive to Lyra who is a war oprhan as they didn't hide their gossip from Lyra, but later Demi May is accused as being the reason behind the gossip because of her behavioral issues.
- Regulus is also autistic, something Lyra realizes, but towards the end, he gets a dressing down for not going over the strict rules regarding courting because his interpretation of the whole process until now is the parents decide who their child is married to, yet the majority of the family never considered marriage for him unless he voiced an interest (all unsaid in the story) because their focus was on Sirius instead.
