"Could there be anything worse than getting stuck in this world with Demi May instead of an actual friend or even Lyra Whitechapel?" Eugene made the mistake of thinking to himself, only for things to worsen upon learning who the Pertinger family's closest relatives were—the Malfoys. "This—this just got worse."

"Angels," Demi May said when Lucius and Narcissa Malfoy arrived to take them away; in a way, she wasn't wrong.

"In the books, Lucius Malfoy always presented himself as having the best intentions of caring for the school, when in reality his plans were evil, not to mention he was—is, a Death Eater. And Narcissa Malfoy—I will admit what she did at the end of the book series was rather cool and means she can do the right thing, but she's still a Black, and they're dangerous, hating Muggleborn and the like. Which—if we can do magic, that's what we are."

Not going with the Malfoy family wasn't an option, though, something Eugene knew quite well.

"There is, after all, nowhere else to go."

Thus, they found themselves at Malfoy Manor, a place as magnificent and handsome as the books described; Eugene was physically tense, feeling unsure of what to do given how he knew how cruel Lucius could be, with a House Elf that preferred to be free appearing in the second book rather than under the brutal hand of the Malfoy family.

"Yet the House Elf taking us to our rooms isn't Dobby, so where is Dobby? Is he not yet born—no, that doesn't seem right," Eugene thought to himself. "Replaced if the second book's already happened?"

The rooms they were led to were right next to each other, while the House Elf wrung her fingers—at least Eugene thought this one a female. "Master Lucius apologizes for the state of the rooms, as he and Mistress weren't prepared to receive wards on such short notice."

"Which is which?" Demi May asked, already pulled into the manor's riches, enthralled with what she shouldn't be.

"At least as far as I'm concerned."

"This is the room for Lady Pertinger. The toiletries on the vanity are handpicked by Lady Narcissa herself."

A gasp escaped his faux sister's mouth as she glided into the room as if she were completely prepared to be pampered with luxury. Still, she spun around, hands clapping together before gleefully declaring, "I've become a princess. Haven't I?"

"Leeney wishes to note that the Pertinger name does not carry the same noble status as the Malfoy or Black family names," the House Elf responded. "Though they are—were well regarded in society."

Demi May turned, looking at Eugene, saying, "I can live with this, but where is Draco Malfoy."

Eugene sucked in his breath. "Leeney can leave us be, but forget what nonsense my sister muttered! And yes, her head is full of nonsense!" The House Elf appeared with a pop, while Eugene dreaded word getting back to any of the Malfoy family regarding what Demi May said. He let out a hiss. "I thought you knew nothing about the Harry Potter fandom?"

"I know that Tom Felton is cute and that he played a character named Draco Malfoy," Demi More said. "Daniel Radcliffe is also cute, but the character he played is so ugly, what with those glasses and scar on his forehead. His redhead friend as well, and that ugly girl that follows them around."

"We've got to be careful, Demi May, not to make them think we are from another world!" Eugene said, letting out a deep breath. "But goodnight!"

"Wait..." She said, frowning.

"I said goodnight, and I'll be locking my bedroom door!" Eugene said, feeling he couldn't trust her. He collapsed into the bed, his stomach grumbling, still not having had dinner, not bothering to change his clothing, unwilling to explore the clothing that may or may not fit him, falling asleep as he lay there.
