"Okay nerds," Mindy says, clapping her hands together, "listen up!"
"As terrifying as this all is, I'm actually glad I get a chance to redeem myself for not," the Meeks twin breathes in, "calling the killers last time."
"It's fine."
Mindy sighs, "Okay! The way I see it, someone is out to make a sequel to the requel."
Anika raises her hand, "Uhm... what's a requel?"
"You're beautiful, sweetie, but let's hold off questions till the end."
"Does everything have to be movie related, Mindy?" Elodie suddenly asks.
"It happened last time, Ryder!"
Elodie rolls her eyes, "It doesn't mean it's happening this time."
"Whatever."
"Stab one took place in Woodsboro," Sam said, tilting her head a bit, "stab two took place in college."
"Do we think that the killer is trying to copy the movies?"
Elodie sighs, "Everything's always about the movies."
Mindy nods, "That is a possibility, Tara. Hero's now in college? Check! Suspicious new characters brought in to round out the suspect list and/or body count?" She says, glaring at Ethan in the process, "Check, check, and check!"
"I don't like this," Ethan mumbles, avoiding eye contact with everyone.
"But it can't just be about stab two."
"Why not?" Tara asked.
"It would make sense if this were just a sequel, but we're not in a sequel. Because nobody just makes sequels anymore!"
Everybody's quiet.
"We're in a franchise!" Mindy says, raising her arms up.
"And there are certain rules to a continuing franchise."
"I had a feeling," Sam says.
"Rule one: Everything is bigger than last time! Bigger budget, bigger cast, bigger body count, longer chases, shoot outs, beheadings! You gotta top what came before to keep people coming back."
"Beheadings?" The male twin asks.
"Beheadings."
"Rule two: Whatever happened last time, expect the opposite! Franchises only survive by subverting expectations! If the killers last time were whiny, snowflake, film nerds with Letterboxd accounts instead of personalities,"
