"You're right, Arthur

"You're right, Arthur. It would take a miracle." I said in wholehearted agreement.

That's what Ryn is—a miracle.

I shoved aside the fear of becoming my father and clung to the man I promised to be for Ryn.

I will always keep her safe, respect her, do the right thing in a reliable way, be here for her, and prioritize her no matter the collateral. I will never betray her, no matter the sacrifice. I will always want her honesty, no matter what the truth is.

I want admission into her world. I want to know her. Thoughts. Fears. All of it, and I'm willing to do whatever it takes and wait as long as it takes to earn it.

I want all of Ryn.

I want to build a home with her.

I want her to unpack the bag she keeps stowed beneath her bed.

Perhaps now that she has passed this evaluation and earned Wes's favor, she will be more open to the idea of settling in.

My heart fluttered over her hard-earned victory.

Endless hours of training, failure after failure, just to stand back up and try again until she succeeded. Ryn is resilient, tenacious, and brave. She is kind and thoughtful. She is curious and, though cautious at times, full of contagious enthusiasm for life.

Ryn is exactly the type of person I want to go through life with.

"What the fuck are you smiling about?" Arthur questioned, opening the door to 5 Alpha.

Am I smiling?

Fuck.

I quickly set my face to neutral. "At the idea of you guys eating ants as kids - fucking weirdos." I deflected, using the information Aldric divulged earlier.

Aldric snorted in laughter, opening the door to 5 Alpha. "That's much less weird than Artie wanting to get with Olivia. We've known her since we were in diapers!" He exasperated.

I chuckled beside him, but truth be told, nothing about Arthur eating things he shouldn't or bedding beautiful women seemed weird - that's just Arthur in a nutshell.

"Oh, whatever, man. Olivia is a walking wet dream, and you know it. Even if you're not allowed to say it, I know Mati would cut out your tongue." Arthur retorted.

We took two steps inside, dropped all our gear, and stepped back outside.

Aldric slammed the door shut behind us. "Don't talk about Mati that way. She's not half as bad as you make her out to be."

"Right." Arthur agreed sarcastically. "Good luck introducing Ryn to Mati this weekend. She is going to have a stroke after she sees how beautiful Ryn is." Arthur pointed out.

Arthur thinks Ryn is beautiful?

I tilted my head towards him and studied his face, seeing nothing but objective facts and joy in his brother's angst reflecting in his eyes.
