The sight of Roslyn walking away filled me with more fear and anger.

It's dark, she's injured, and we are in an unfamiliar place.

Why can't she listen?

Fuck me – and fuck her!

Pain in my ass.

She would be safest here.

I moved towards the door, but Arthur shoved me backward, swinging a fist that collided with my jaw. I dodged a second punch and connected my fist to his face. I grappled him to the floor, and we fought ragefully. Even in my anger, I recognized that the fight was too easy.

I paused, letting my emotions clear long enough to see the blood smeared on the floor.

Shit. His shoulder.

I released my grip on his collar and dropped my hands.

Arthur shoved me harshly, "What the fuck is your problem?" he barked. "I want an answer!"

I stood from the floor, fuming. "I don't know how to be more fucking clear about what my issue is." I snapped.

Arthur scoffed. "Fuck you, Solan." He said, standing. "STOP accusing her of insubordination. If anyone catches wind of that – she may get subpoenaed. You know how Wes is; she won't deny your accusation." He said, each word growing in anger and disappointment towards me. "I don't recognize you. Since when are you the type of leader to belittle someone the way you've belittled Ryn today? Since when are you that type of person?" He questioned, shoving at me again.

Belittle Roslyn?

"You have her so twisted over this." He continued. "She believes she did something wrong and has earned your anger. You have filled her with self-doubt over her ability to do this job and make sound decisions. She fucking apologized to you. An apology she NEVER owed."

I raised a hand, requesting his silence. "You're right." I submitted, feeling shame and confusion cloud my mind.

"I fucking know I'm right." Arthur spat mercilessly.

"Ease up." Aldric barked at his brother before twisting towards me. "I'm worried about you, Solan. You're out of character. What's going on?" He rested a hand on my shoulder and scanned my eyes.

In a single breath, he found what he was looking for – the truth.

My pulse quickened as the condition of my heart lay unwillingly exposed.

My throat tightened, and I looked at him, feeling lost. "She was so close to death," I whispered, tasting the desperation I felt for her safety in every word.

Aldric tightened his grip on me in empathy while Arthur scoffed, oblivious to what Aldric now knew.

"She scared all of us today." Arthur snapped m. "You're the only one acting like – "
