RING!
I snapped out of my consciousness as the bell rang its threatening aura. Has the period passed that quickly? I was startled once more by Calixo, who took my arm so we wouldn't be late to lunch.
I scrambled to get my bag as I was lifted off of my feet momentarily as he flew down the stairs, and the next thing I knew, we were sitting in the cafeteria sitting at the 4-seater table. The stools were colorful compared to the boring, dull room. The beige colored bricks had different club and activity posters strung on them, which was the only eye-saver from the rest of this prison.
Calixo popped out a brown bag from his book bag and he immediately began chowing down on some sort of sandwich. The rest of the people slowly crowded in- the bigger tables, holding the more popular people. The smaller ones, the loners, and the middle group were those who were just that, a middle class.
Even though Calixo was considered a loner, he had great powers and strength. Some of our other friends came- I smiled and greeted them with a smile.
Pghl- or Lego, for short, was a mastermind similar to Kreek, but he could power the suit with his own body. Lego had a somewhat skittish voice and lightish yellowish skin.
Then there was DJ Monopoly- we call him "Deejay" as a tease. He's a very popular kid, I ended up getting some of my popularity from him. He had the power of agility and nuclear resistance. He was one of the most powerful people in our school.
However- he fell for the UGLIEST guy, I swear. Some hothead named Russo. He was best friends with Sabrina, another powerful figure. Russo could read you like a book, but was obvious to DJ's crush on him. Russo had the power of Truth. Sabrina could heal whoever she pleased.
DJ sat down with blush spread throughout his face. His green, spiky hair failed to lessen the reddish hue on his embarrassed face. "What happened today?" I grinned, adjusting my mask and taking a bite out of the quesadilla I packed. DJ looked up with his flushed shades bouncing with his head. "We. Had. To work together." DJ squeaked.
Lego laughed, "Why don't you guys go to prom at the end of the year?"
"No way! That's gay! I'm NOT gay!" DJ huffed.
"Oh please. And the sky isn't blue." Calixo rolled his eyes as we laughed and ate for most of the period.
Out of the corner of my eye, I saw that god damned annoying guy. PinkLeaf grinned and whispered to his friends, seemingly ruffling his hair and mocking me.
I side-eyed the guy and finished my food. Luckily, after lunch, I only had one more period to go through. And that period was algebra.
God, kill me.
—--------------------
It was roughly 3 PM when I got home. Calixo had his friends over since I could hear Denis, Sketch, and Bandites in his room.
I unlocked my door and closed it with a loud sigh. I could've sworn every day was getting slower and slower.
Today felt like 12 hours. I could've sworn I counted every second. Every minute.
I guess that's just how funny life can be.
My phone went off from a text from my mother. "How was your day, Honey? Any signs of powers?" The text read.
Every day she texted me this, my response was always the same: "No. It was good, love you, I'm gonna go rest now."
I honestly couldn't find out what was exactly wrong with me. Was it something wrong genetically? Was I just a very, very late bloomer? It felt like my questions would never be answered.
I flipped my head over on my pillow and genuinely felt tired out of my mind a few minutes later. I usually had some difficulty sleeping so I embraced this feeling with open arms.
However, I couldn't help it. Just one last thought..
Why must I feel like a burnt out, faded gas in a universe filled with bright, shining stars?
