Midway through the reunion, Aurelius's grandmother had stormed off, evidently bored and seeking a new victim to criticise. It seemed she'd reached her limit of showing affection.
The grandpa swiftly rushed after her, ensuring she didn't cause too much ruckus in the school.
What an intimidating woman... Pro thought.
"Let me have a look at that." Jin said, pulling her husband in, and wrapping his arm with a large bandage from her handbag. "Why are you always so careless?"
Chenglei smirked flirtatiously. "The perks are that I have a cute nurse."
Jin flicked his nose. "Don't get any ideas. You're sleeping on the couch tonight."
"What? why?"
"You're wounded. I can't have you playing around in my room. You'll pull your bandages otherwise."
Chenglei leaned in with a foxy grin. "You're always worth the pain."
Jin's cheeks flushed, leaning in for the kiss despite herself.
Married for twenty years, and they still act like they're in the honeymoon stage.
Aurelius's fine features were twisted with pure disgust. It seemed any awe he felt at finally reuniting with his family had completely evaporated.
Mo chomped on a chip, enjoying the show.
Meanwhile, there was still a corpse by their feet.
"Mr and Mrs Li," Pro spoke up, saving the teenager's eyes from getting scarred. "You're both acting very calm despite witnessing a student come back to life."
Too calm.
Chenglei and Jin shared a look, as if saying the jig is up.
"We're monster hunters." The two chorused.
"Huh?" Aurelius blurted in distaste.
Why are you surprised? Pro internally quizzed. You're their son.
"Chenglei and Jin both come from prominent monster hunter lineages." Mo said, slurping from his slushy.
"In fact, that is how my husband and I met." Jin brightly announced. "Our families had often gone on monster raids together."
"Monster Hunting is a very dangerous profession." Chenglei added. "People get hurt often. Many of our relatives and loved ones have died or gone missing at a young age. It is why, after getting married, we both agreed to leave Monster Hunting, and do something normal... well, as normal as two people that descent from a long line of prominent Monster Hunters could get."
"Chenglei is a detective, and I am a council member," Jin offered.
"So that sums everything up," Chenglei concluded.
"Monster hunters." Aurelius echoed. "...not cultivators?"
"No." Chenglei confirmed. "We're just Monster Hunters."
"But what of exorcising Ghouls and cultivating to immortality?" Aurelius pressed. "Or gaining fame and recognition?"
"We don't cultivate to immortality." Jin replied. "And Monster Hunting is kept secret. Cultivating immorality is just bedtime stories."
Aurelius appeared as if his entire world had shifted.
Aurelius is probably the only person in his entire family who didn't know about Monster Hunters. Pro thought sympathetically.
