"It would have been faster had we travelled by river." Pro deadpanned.

"Why must everything be done strangely with you?!" Aurelius exclaimed.

"River is faster." Pro petulantly insisted.

"If your goal is to die, then you're right, it is a faster option."

Just then, a group of students walked past.

"Did you hear? One of the Porcupine's gang members was abducted this time." A Gazelle member whispered to her friends.

"What? No way! They're ruthless fighters, I doubt they were kidnapped without a fuss." Another guy scoffed.

"It's true, it's true! I heard their gang leader shouting about it. Apparently, he didn't want to believe it either."

"If only a Lion was abducted, those guys are obnoxious as heck." Another student lamented wretchedly.

The group of students had reached the end of the hall, now out of hearing range.

Pro felt anxiety at the prospect that another high school student had gone missing, especially a member of the Porcupines. Out of the four gangs of the school, the Porcupines consisted of the most impressive fighters. No one wanted to mess with them. Pro could only guess–

"–hear me?" Aurelius snapped.

Pro blinked. "Huh?"

"Did you hear anything I said?" He demanded.

Pro began walking ahead. "We need to drop off the doctors' certificate at the office, then we'll go to our classes."

"We? I don't go to this sect!" He snapped.

"School." Pro corrected him.

"What?"

"This is a school, not a cult." Pro corrected.

"Who said anything about a cult?!" He looked at her incredulously, but she was already several steps ahead.

Aurelius had no choice but to hurry along, grumbling all the while.

Pro's insides fizzed with amusement.

At a glance, Westfield high seemed pretty normal. The uniform consisted of white button up shirts coupled with short ties and pleated skirts or trousers.

However, tell-tale accessories gave away a students' gang association.

Gazelle gang members wore a shimmery purple and gold silk fabric–some students tied the fabric to their ponytails and braids, other's slipped it into their breast pockets or wore it wrapped around their necks like a scarf. Some even wore the fabric as a loose belt, always fashionable.

Porcupines had an inconspicuous brown leather bracelet or anklet.

The Bears proudly bore a bear pin, fastened to their skirts or collars like a badge of honor.

The Lions signature piece was a gold button, placed in an aesthetically pleasing way on their school uniform, belt or backpack.

The other gangs often call Lions the snakes, behind and even to their faces. It was true that their leader did not appear to have the qualities of a Lion, instead, to most he resembled a drowned rat, with his pasty grey complexion, dark limp hair, and deep sunken eyes. The Bear leader had one too many sleepless nights.

As Pro was probably the only person in the three neighboring highschools to not be a part of a gang, that also meant she did not have friends.

But that also signified she was not part of any gang fights either. Whether that be for school poetry or maths competitions, sport or rec rivalry or the usual gang alleyway fist fights, she avoided all clashes.
