Nothing you do or do not do
Will change the Earth's rotation.
It runs a course grim, slow and true.
It runs on gravitation.

Nothing you wish or will not wish
Will shatter a star system.
They swim on, cold as silverfish,
And Newton's Laws assist them.

Nothing you dream or would not dream
Has any form Out There.
To gas giant and comet stream,
Your whims hardly compare.

Nothing you long for, scream of, break,
Can change the cosmic tide.
Your soul is small, an odd mistake,
Anomalies aside.

The planets pirouette in pairs.
The suns close their great eyes.
The moons wax from fragile curved hairs
To white orbs in their skies.

The heavens will outlast you, kid.
You won't live to behold
The universe. More intrepid
Than you have died untold

Of glitter, darkness, gaps in time,
Ever expanding maws,
The colors, rippling waves that climb
And swallow. Oh, the awe.

Nothing you howl for the sky to hear
Has any real effect.
You're grounded here, on this blue sphere,
In bitter retrospect.
