Heaven came crashing down one day
One storm-washed afternoon

Hell rose outta the ground one day
Reversed ballerina's swoon

I was listless on my swing that day
For sharp thought it was too soon

Eyes glazed, lost somewhere far away
In the storm-washed afternoon.

~~~
As close to asleep as awake could be
I felt the winds pour down
I kicked off the ground and swung to see
That the Earth had begun to drown
That the land I loved had turned on me
Turned quite upside down
That the sky I knew was a stark melee
A buttery mess of a gown.
~~~

I was stuck in a vast vertigo
Between a war of world upon world

With magma and sorrow raging far below
Over mountains and rivers it swirled

Above, glory and soul bursting into free flow
Around every last star it curled

For an instant I breathed in a breathtaking glow
Piercing all as it slowly unfurled.

~~~
I looked down and the things that I saw
Were made of desperation and fate
I looked down into the great shifting maw
Of the cruel wicked head of hate
I looked down at the absence of love and law
And willed it never to ever abate
For the things clawing fierce from its black craggy jaw
Had for so long reached out for the gate.
~~~

I peered up and the things seething there
Were forged of bright clear destiny

I peered up at the work of the lord's craft and care
At oblivion's underbelly

I peered up into gold melted flare
And the falls of infinity

For the things that seethed to the trumpets' blare
Were the tears of epiphany.

~~~
Heaven came crashing down one day
One storm-washed afternoon
Hell rose outta the ground one day
Reversed ballerina's swoon
I hung in the balance of will and way
One storm-washed afternoon.
