"Andrade how do you feel about the emergency room so far?" My supervising physician Dr. Emery Scott asked as we had a moments break in between patients. It was a rather calm Thursday morning before we were off.

"A lot more straight forward than I thought, main floor hospital settings seemed so scary." I admit, nodding as he smiles at me.

"What's your experience again?" His tone is inquisitive instead of disrespectful.

"Mainly surgical." My answer is simple before his pager goes off and he begins walking and I'm left to follow behind his quick steps.

"26 year old woman reporting moderate bleeding, eight months pregnant." I keep up my pace, ensuring to show no emotion. We've made it to her bedside and Dr. Scott makes our introductions, and despite being in pain she was very sweet and respectful.

We glove up and I feel like I'm having flashbacks of Ameena ordering my ultrasound as Emery explained to her what we were doing. I ordered her bloodwork, while he placed his stethoscope on her belly listening.

The young lady had been doing breathing exercises, willing herself through the pain. A red patch slowly began to grow underneath the white sheet that covered her legs. While she winced in pain I didn't alarm the her yet still brought it to the doctors attention, nodding he explains to her we are going to step away momentarily.

The young lady grips my gloved hand, "Please don't leave. I'm afraid, and it hurts s-so bad." I give her an empathetic look before letting Dr.Emery leave and staying with her. Pulling the chair I sat next to her and she held my hand.

"What's your name again?" The girl, whose chart was labeled 'high risk' panted; out of breath from the sharpness of her stomach pain.

"NP Andrade, but you can call me Andy." I give her a warm smile, with a reassuring squeeze to her hand, before setting up for labs to be drawn. Labored breathing once again as she wearily smiled at me; "Andy, do you have kids?"
