"All the boys have traditional Chinese names you know." Rose says to me as I wash the rice, she chops vegetables while giving me the information.

"Really? That's cool, what are they?"

"Oakley is Rui, Calvin is Jian, and Liam is Xin. Rui ; Wise, Jian ; strong, Xin ; heart." She hums happily, "If any of those are wrong, Neil has hell to pay." She drops the knife wiping her hands on the cloth on her hip, while I finish my task of handing her the bowl of rice.

"Oo super cute." Rose always shared the most random information but it was so cute how much effort she put into ensuring we had a good relationship. I was awful at conversations sometimes and always counted long dragged out silence as hanging out with someone. She's doesn't know how much I appreciate her not taking my silence personal or as disrespect.

It's my birthday, and all I wanted was to be back in the UK with my friends and family. I had a thing for the rolling hills behind Roses mini manor, the stars were the brightest at night when she turned off all the lights. Most people couldn't make it, so I decided to still spend it with Oakley and his family because they were always so welcoming and hospitable. It was the closest reminder of the childhood I remember around a dinner table.
