After they had all woken up, they were sitting on the ground and eating the things that yugoslavia gave them. Montenegro wasn't eating, just staring at the mountains anxiously and was sweating.
"What's up with you? Are you fine?", Serbia asked his brother, worry in his voice.
"It'll make him kill me, It'll make him kill me", he repeated that again and again like he had lost his mind.
"What will make who kill you and why?"
"T-the book! I know too much!"
"About what?", Greece asked.
"About the alternative future! And whoever will resist will be silenced and controlled!"
Greece stared at him for some moments.
"What will happen?"
"The Communist will win but-", he wanted to tell more but suddenly a shot rang out and he fell into the mud, bleeding from the wound in his head, his blank, wide eyes starting into the air, he doesn't breath, doesn't move, he's dead instantly and the mud under him started turning red from his blood leaking out of the fresh wound.
"Shit Montenegro!", Serbia yelled out and went to him but he had to leave his little brother alone in the dirt to hide behind a tank that was standing there, because the person who killed Montenegro almost shot him.
"Was someone a sniper in the past?!", Greece yelled.
"Yes! I!", Kosovo yelled back.
"Has someone a Sniper?!", he yelled and Yugoslavia tossed him a sniper rifle.
Kosovo looked around to find a place to shoot from and he quickly found one. He placed his sniper rifle on the a large box which was currently emptied. A bullet flew over his head and he ducked. He loaded the sniper and took aim. He looked into the rifle scope and his eyes widened.
"What's wrong?", Croatia asked.
"I-it is..", Kosovo Stuttered.
"Yes?"
Kosovo couldn't answer because a bullet didn't miss him but it didn't do much damage, he yelled out in pain as the bullet grazed his cheek. He held his cheek, blood dripping down from the wound as he hid behind the box.
Serbia got to him. "Who was it?", he asked while taking him quickly behind the tank where all of them were hiding. He took out a bandage but first cleaned the wound with alcohol since a bit of dirt came into it and this made Kosovo clinge onto his shirt and Albania also came, pushing Serbia away and taking out a bandage. Serbia pushed him back and bandaged Kosovo's face but Albania pushed him again before he could do that.
This quickly resulted in the two men fighting and Kosovo bandaging himself and rolling his eyes at the two men. He got up from the ground and got behind the box again, laying down with his stomach in sniper position. He looked at the sniper rifle it was a German one, probably the partisans got this from dead Germans like they always did. Kosovo looked into the rifle scope and took a glance at Bosnia.
He had this emotionless and blank eyes which you'd see in films when a character gets hypnotized or mind controlled.
Those who got killed wouldn't die, they would become mindless soldiers of the book. Now Kosovo understood what Montenegro meant. If they'd resist, they'd be forced to change history anyway. Kosovo ran to the others.
"We have to leave and hide!"
"I agree", Greece said.
"Do we both realized the same?"
"Does Bosnia have blank eyes? No emotion at all?", Greece asked and Kosovo nodded.
"Then I also know what's happening and ain't no way I'll become this book's puppet."
"What should we do?", Slovenia asked and Kosovo turned to Yugoslavia.
"Here are 3 jeeps, right?" Yugoslavia nodded at what he said.
"Can we take 2?" Yugoslavia nodded again.
"Seems like you don't want to change the past anymore", Macedonia said to the Greek and snorted while he just rolled his eye.
"We could go and hid somewhere..in Albania", Albania said after thinking. "I know a place from a friend who died in 1943 and since it's 1944, it'll be in a slightly good shape and even if it's in a bad shape, we'll still be able to stay there till they will find us again, we just have to survive the war right? And then we'll be transported home and everything will be good because the book didn't succeed."
"Well, what I'm worried about is that even if we survive and come back to the future, we don't know how much changed. Maybe nothing changed because the book didn't succeed but..you know, we also did big things in the past not only our people but also we as beings."
"Well, we'll have to survive anyway", Bulgaria said and the rest agreed.
By now the bullets had stopped and Bosnia was either waiting for them to come out or he was already advancing towards them, which would mean that they'd have to leaves North Macedonia and go towards Albania which would take more than just a few hours.
"Okay so Romania, Bulgaria, Macedonia, Turkey and Croatia are gonna be in the second jeep that follows the first one, I'll drive, Albania will sit next to me and the rest at the backseats", Greece explained.
"And remember, when we leave the cover that we get from this tank, we have to run very fast, there are the vehicles", Greece added and pointed to the direction of them.
"Alright, just fucking run", Kosovo said and started running towards the car but no bullets flew so the rest followed quickly, they all got into the jeeps and they all drove off.
Serbia was staring at Yugoslavia until he couldn't see his father anymore. He had been united with his father for just a few days and now he left him again! He knew he shouldn't feel like that but Serbia hoped that in the new future, yugoslavia would be still together. He really did. He also hoped to be united with his father and be close with his brothers again like the time Yugoslavia was still alive. He knew it was wrong but he couldn't take it anymore, maybe if the book did get them all he'd be like he was with them in the normal past. He didn't want this.
Every time Bosnia had a nightmare from the Bosnian war, especially the genocide in Srebrenica, he was scared of Serbia, like really much, he didn't even want to stand or look at the monster who helped killing children and woman.
Slovenia just called him a monster for what he did, maybe he actually was?
Croatia was mad. Mad at what Serbia did to his people. Everyone is on his side of course. He did war crimes too! He killed a lot of Serbs too! And no one gives a shit about the massacre of Serbs in Jasenovac!
Macedonia and Montenegro were fine with him, Macedonia had more of a problem with Albanians and Montenegro was the only one who stayed with Serbia for the longest time, despite being a Republic and not an autonomous province like kosovo. Montenegro was also in a paramilitary group but of course no one knows and won't ever know since serbia is keeping that secret locked away.
And there was Kosovo.
The thing with Kosovo was special and complicated. The land was rightfully his and he shouldn't care about the Albanian majority, he should only look at the poor, helpless and discriminated Serbian minority in northern Kosovo. Everyone with a clear thinking mind would understand that this was absolute bullshit. Serbia did too. Kosovo was his son, he didn't want to hurt him but every time a nation has too many nationalists, they become insane or not clearly thinkable. They do or say things that they don't want. The same was with Serbia. He still had Nationalists so often he didn't control what he was saying and that, plus the war, destroyed the relationship he had with Kosovo.
He wanted all this to be better and maybe the book could do that for him, maybe the book hasn't ad intentions, Montenegro didn't say exactly what would happen in the past, maybe it was good so the book didn't want them to resist...
Maybe he should switch sides.
