Miracle Horse

Chapter 4

I wake up alone on Hanna's bed. Hanna must be downstairs making breakfast. I check the time. It's 8:45 a.m. I get up and stretch my long legs. Then I get ready and run downstairs. Unfortunately, Hanna isn't making breakfast. Instead, she's plopped up on the couch watching her favourite show "Dancing with the stars" on television with a bowl of chips. She motions me to come join her. I should have known. I sit down beside Hanna and tell her "Hanna come on, we need to be at the animal hospital, remember?" Hanna just keeps her eyes on the television. "Hanna!" I say louder. Hanna jumps up and drops her bowl of chips. "What?" I remind her about Rory asking us to come to the animal hospital at 9 a.m. Hanna picks up the last chip from the floor and throws it into the mini garbage can she's holding. "Let's go then."

Coty, Katherine and Rory look happy when they see us but I'm not 100% sure why they are happy. Before I could even say anything, Hanna asks "Is Dawn alright?" Coty smiles "He's good to go." I smile in relief. "Can I go meet him?" Katherine points to the same room he was in before. I walk in but am surprised to see that Dawn isn't there. I look around the room. The blue painted walls are chipping off, there is an old photograph of a border collie who survived some sort of surgery, certificates that Dr.Monroe received in the past few years, a big window that is open letting in cool, fresh summer air and the big hospital bed Dawn was on a couple of days ago. I run out of the room, panic rising inside of me. "Katherine!" But as I look around the hospital I realize that I'm alone. A bead of sweat runs down my back. I run around the hospital checking different rooms, knocking on the ones that are locked but still nobody is there until I spot the receptionist walking towards the bathroom. I run after her and cry "Wait!" She turns around and gives me a warm smile "Hello, Amber." I try to give her a smile back but I can't. "Where is Dawn? Where is Katherine? WHERE IS HANNA?" The receptionist looks at me as if I'm some alien who came from outer space on a mission. "What do you mean? They went to take Dawn home? I thought you were with them." That can't be true. I was with Katharine just a while ago and she told me Dawn was in Room 204 like before. I explain this all to Sasha(She told me to call her that) and she looks almost as confused as I did. "That's strange...well, if you were looking for them, they're gone home now." I heave a big sigh "Well, thank you anyways"

I run to Hanna who is mucking the horse stalls. I seriously didn't see that coming. "Hanna!" I yell from the top of my lungs. Hanna looks up and casually says "Oh hey" as if nothing ever happened. I try to sound as casual as she did but I can't. "Why did you guys leave me at the hospital alone? What happened" Hanna sighs and stops mucking the stalls. "There's a problem" This makes me even more panicked. "What?" Hanna grips my shoulders "Dawn ran away. I don't think we will be able to find him"
