Miracle Horse

Chapter 22

"Sunshine?" I whisper, walking towards her. Sunshine gives me kisses happily. I laugh. "Why are you here baby girl?" Hanna comes up beside me and gives Sunshine a gentle stroke. "Alright Amber, we have to get out of here. Now."

I stop at my tracks, and my grip on Sunshine's halter falls. "Hanna." I say quietly looking down at the body on the floor, clearly not living. Hanna sayas nothing. "Sunshine? Was it you? Did you do this?" Sunshine looks down, guilty. A tear escapes my eye. Not for the sorrow of John's death, but for Sunshine. Why did she do this? What for? And how exactly did she come here? All these questions race through my head, all at once. Hanna places a hand on my shoulder and says reasurringly "Let's go now, Amber." I nod and slowly step over the dead body of John.

As we walk outside of the house, a drop of water hits my face as if announcing the death of John. I wipe it off quickly and keep walking, as the rain keeps falling. Hanna, Sunshine and I walk towards the stablesseeing Coty right in front of us, riding Dawn. She then spots us, clearly seeing our dissapointed expression. "What's wrong girls? Why don't you have Sunshine on a rope?" I look over at Hanna who nods and explains everything. Coty halts Dawn to a stop and jumps off, walking towards me. She gives me a warm hug. It makes me feel more safe. More relaxed. "Don't worry about it, Amber. Sunshine did this to save you. See. She loves you more than anything and that's proof." I manage a little smile and look over at Sunshine who's still looking at the floor, sadly. I pick up her face, gently and give her a slight kiss on the head. "Don't worry baby girl. I still love you."

Katherine drinks her coffee in small sips. "Guys look at this!" Coty, Hanna and I crowd around her to see the newspaper. I look at the front page titled "Murdered Man?" My head starts to feel dizzy and I almost loose my balance. Hanna grabs my hand and reassures me. "You ok?" I nod holding my forehead. "What do we do?" Coty looks at the newspaper worringly. "I'm afraid we have no other choice but to face the truth". I look at Coty, panicked. "But, that's not safe. They could take Sunshine away from us!" Coty places her hand on my shoulder. "Don't worry. We can exxagerate a bit. Right?"

At first I had no idea what Coty was talking about but then I realized what she meant by "exxagerating". Whenever Coty says the word "exaggerate" it's just fancy for "lie". She's right actaully. Nobody was present at the time of the incident, plus he's dead. If we lie, who won't believe us? "Coty, thats a great idea! We can say he was abusing Sunshine from a long time and this time she decided to act upon it! And that's not even a lie, actaully. It was obvious John abused horses by the way he talked, acted, and how he always tried to kidnap Sunshine." Coty smiled. "Your right, thats absolutely correct!"

"BEEP BEEP BEEP BEE-" I moan and shut my alarm, at the same time my phone beeps and I recieve a text from Hanna.

HannaBanana35- Hey gurl, come to the police office in an hour sharp! Lovez ya;)

I smile and text her back quickly.

Me-i'll be there love u 2 :)

I dress up and get ready. By the time I finish my bagel, I have 20 minutes so I run down to the stables, seeing Hanna collecting hay in the pasture ahead. "Hey Hanna!" I say walking up to her. Hanna looks at me and replys "Hey girl, hey!" I run up to her and grab a wheelborrow to help. "Ready to go?" Hanna nods. "For sure."
