Two years later...

"Adam!" Tara shrieked as she ran into my office and clamping onto my robe.

"Hey Tara!" I stated with a smile as I picked her up onto my lap, "do the staff know you're here?"

"Yes!" She said, clearly lying.

"Ok!" I said, pulling out my phone and sent a quick text to her mom saying she snuck away from daycare sought me out. She responded she was on her way down.

"Eeeeeh!" Tara shrieked as she climbed between my left wing and my side, clamping herself there.

When her mom walked into my office, I held a finger to my lips indicating to be quiet and pointed to my side. Tara shifted under my wing, earning a smile from both of us. Bria came up beside me and nodded for me to lift my wing, so I did.

"What are you doing young lady?" Bria asked as she scooped her daughter into her arms.

"Mom!" Tara cried out in shrill laughter.

"I thought I warned you about sneaking away from daycare young lady?" Bria asked.

"But mommy, Adam is so much more fun then all those other kids!" Tara whined.

"I know he is, and I know you guys have quite a bit in common, but you can't just leave daycare and bother Adam while he's working!" Bria said.

"Why not? Adam loves me!" Tara said.

"Yes, but what if you were building a sandcastle at the beach, something I know you love doing, but what if someone came over to you and refused to let you build any?" I asked.

"I'd be very upset I couldn't build any sandcastles!" Tara said, tears in her eyes.

"Exactly, and I enjoy figuring out what makes plants sick, and how to help them get better, so I can't always play with you while I'm trying to do that!" I told her.

"I didn't think of it like that!" She said.

"So, what do you say we get you back to daycare, huh?" Bria asked. Tara just nodded and Bria left my office.

"Tara bothered you again?" Amanda asked as she walked in as they were leaving.

"Oh yeah, she's insistent on spending time with me because we get along so well and are so introverted I get what it's like to hate being surrounded by large crowds!" I stated, rolling my eyes.

"She knows she can't keep doing that? Right?" She asked.

"I explained I liked doing this, and her bothering me here is like someone bothering her at the beach keeping her from building sandcastles, so hopefully she understands, but we'll see!" I stated.

"Adam! Wake up!" Lute cried out as she slammed the front door when she entered my penthouse.

"Shut the fuck up Bitch! I'm in the bathroom!" I called back from the bathroom attached to my bedroom. I returned to my shower, tuning Lute out, not even noticing when the bathroom door opened.

"Adam!" Lute snapped, throwing open the shower curtain.

"God damn it Lute!" I cried out, covering myself with my wings.

"You completely flaked on me for breakfast this morning!" She said in a huff.

"I told you last week when you brought it up that I had a planned barbecue with my coworkers that I had planned for months and it was probably going on all night, but you wouldn't listen and kept bragging on social media and blowing up my phone about it, even when I told you to stop and I wasn't going!" I stated, stepped out of the shower and wrapped a towel around my waist.
