SOFT FOOTSTEPS ECHOED through the field as the gravel underneath the water hashira's zori's crackled. Kaori was safely sleeping on Giyuu's back, her chin leaning against his shoulder.
Giyuu didn't mind her sleeping, he was more focused on the three pairs of eyes that followed them behind the bushes, he knew who it belonged to – the infamous uppermoon one.
The so-called uppermoon one can kill about 40 slayers with one strike using his abnormal katana. The Water Hashira was confused.
Why did that brutal emotionless machine-killing demon spare the little girl, especially letting him save the little girl from the frozen lake without attacking him?
'It was as if the demon wanted me to save her...' He hypothesized, furrowing his eyebrows.
'Is this some sort of trick so that he can follow me back to the headquarters?' Giyuu suspected, his eyes glancing at the moving bushes.
Giyuu was jumping from tree to tree as his kasugai crow led the hashira to where his mission was supposed to be located.
He was hurrying since the crow reported that a hashira had been requested for this mission since the power of the demon wasn't normal. He could smell the faint scent of the metallic odor so he was rushing to get there as soon as he could.
When he arrived, he landed on the roof of the house just to see a little girl with pure white-colored hair that was stained with blood running from the house.
He could swear he heard another voice calling out for her, telling her to wait but the girl kept advancing - walking on top of the frozen-melting lake. Giyuu widened his eyes, alarmed.
'Oh no!'
When she stepped on the wrong ice floor, the ground beneath her shattered and she fell into the cold waters. However, just as Giyuu was about to jump down to save her, someone ran out of the house, shocking him.
It was a tall figure with long spiky black hair and red tips. He has a purple-black checkered kimono on. His glowing eyes reflected the words UPPERMOON ONE.
He was running towards where the girl fell too, crouching down on the hole where she fell through as if he wanted to save her.
'Demon!' Giyuu gritted his teeth, sensing the demon's aura and jumping down from the roof, unsheathing his katana and using one of his breathing techniques.
The glowing bright blue light emerged from his katana blade as it started turning into a flow of water. His deep sapphire blue eyes glowed slightly as he did so.
"Water breathing, First Form: Water Surface Slash!!"
Just as Giyuu was about to strike the demon, he dodged just in time. When they made eye contact, Giyuu froze when he read the kanji written on the demon's three pairs of glowing yellow eyes.
'Uppermoon One?'
They stare at each other for a while. Kokushibo glanced at the cracked hole on the ice surface, looking back at the slayer before running away from the scene.
Giyuu soon remembered the girl who fell into the frozen lake and quickly dived into the cold waters, swimming towards the girl. Her pure white hair spreads, her eyes narrowing as if she were trying to see who he was.
Giyuu sighed, 'To be honest, I only offered her to become my tsuguko because that's the only way for her to let me bring her back to the headquarters. She must have a relationship with the demon.'
