ILL BE GOOD, JAYMES YOUNG

"GOOD MORNING, MIJA" ABUELITA sang from the other end of the line. This morning Dee's family had arrived and settled into her mothers house. She got calls from all of the family asking about why she hadn't come to breakfast in which she apologized due to her early shift that she had at the 118.

Whenever her family comes to visit, its always her abuela who actually cared for what she had to say. Growing up with an all girl household, flooded with tia's, primas. Abuelita was always her favorite person to confide in, watch telenovelas with, and gossip.

Her abuela truly understood the young girl. Especially with all the criticism that came from her tia's, tio's and her older cousions.

But her abuela never doubted Dee's ability to succeed in her job as a fire fighter. Because abuela exceeded in her role as a first responder in Texas. Chief of police Salma Santos.

"Morning abuela" Dee smiled at her grandmother. Today morning was a little slow, no calls yet. Just waiting for the trouble that was waiting for them.

her abuela paced in her bedroom that was at her daughter, Veronica- Dee's mothers house. She was applying the last of her makeup on while Dee was setting her phone in her locker while she changed into her new set of uniform. "So, tell me Mija. how are you doing?"

Dee chuckled as she tucked in her LAFD tight t-shirt in her pants. "Im fine, why do you ask?"

"Oh" her abuela blurted, confused. "Really?"

Dee furrowed her brows, grabbing her phone while heading out of the woman's changing rooms. "Why wouldn't i be?"

Her abuela choked out, "no reason" playing with her hair in the mirror as if she didn't just hesitated to spill something. "So, when can i see you? I need to talk to you."

Dee scrunched her face up, "tonight, when i come over" she answered. "You know that abuela. Are you okay? Your starting to forget things really quickly abuela- we should get you checked up, or maybe make you resign." She joked. She let out a chuckle once she saw her grandmothers face lift up, offended with with granddaughters words.

Finally reaching the top of the stairs she spotted Buck and Hen playing video games on the couch. "Aye perra." She breathed out. "Ill stop by at the fire station later today, ill bring Athena with me- get her mind off May for a bit."

"Okay bye-"

Dee looked back at her phone, shocked at her grandmothers behavior as she ended the phone call without saying bye. Dee called her back, but she didn't answer. Her grandmother knew how she didn't like when people dont say bye before they end the phone call, so she knew this would be good pay back for practically calling her old.

"Right here, right here! Turn left!" Hen yelled out at the tv.

She approached the two, "I'm trying!" Buck shouted back.

Dee leaned both her arms on the couch as she examined the mans horrible skills in playing the game. "Oh, oh. So, your fleeing the scene? You do realize that you lose points for murdering people on the way to the fire."

"It's fine. It's a flesh wound. Obama care." He simply stated, causing to grab the controller from his girp.

They wrestled, arguing about the controller, Dee quickly snatched the controller from Hen causing both to stop and look at the curly haired brunette. "If you both dont stop fighting like freaking 8- year olds, i will whip your ass" she sternly stated at the two who immediately shared a look with one another, terrified and shocked with her sudden burst.
