Sometime later, Patty had just finished putting her room back together.
When she had a minute, Jeremy presented her with a colorful hatbox tied up with ribbon.
"It's for you, my love" said Jeremy.
"What is it?" said Patty.
"Open it" said Jeremy.
Patty did as told and a little orange puppy with wolf-like ears and a fox-like tail stuck its head out of the box.
"Aww, hey, little guy. You're awfully cute" Patty cooed.
"We found the food thief. He's the one who stole the good meat from Brer Vulture" said Burt.
"He ate all the chili surprise" said Chad.
"De s'prize is he's still alive" said Brer Rabbit.
"He's so sweet. Where'd you get him, Jeremy?" said Patty.
"I found him riding in a log. He didn't have any tags so I figured he was a stray" said Jeremy.
"That's how you got Hal, eh?" said Chad.
"Oh, you guys. I see what you're doing" said Patty.
"Patty, we realize no dog could ever replace Hal" said Jeremy.
"Yeah. Hal was the best. Even though he didn't like me" said Burt.
"What are you talking about, Burt? Hal loved you" said Patty.
"Then why'd he try and kill me every time I saw him?" said Burt.
"Hal always played rough with boys. My brother Ray could tell you the same thing. Hal once ripped his socks to shreds while his feet were still in them" said Patty.
Burt widened his eyes.
"Would you like to have this dog as your own, Patty?" said Chad.
"He'd be de perfect Splash mascot. He's adorable an' he can tol'rate de food" said Brer Rabbit.
"In that case... welcome to Splash Mountain, little buddy" said Patty.
She hugged her new dog. "You're gonna need a name. Got any ideas?"
The dog looked at a photograph of Patty's dear friend Paul O'Keeffe and barked at it.
"Why's he barking at your picture of Paul O'Keeffe?" said Burt.
"Cuz even dogs know John Lennon is de only one who can rock round glasses" said Brer Rabbit.
Patty thought harder. "Oh, I get it! He wants to be called Ross. Right, boy?"
The dog licked her cheek. "I'll take that slobber as a yes" said Patty.
"I'll get one o' Brer Jeremy's sweatshirts" said Brer Rabbit.
