Except for the painting you were standing in front of, the majority of the room was dark, lit only by a faint orange glow.
The canvas was coated in red and black paint, with a blood-like tint and texture.
As you moved, the paintbrush between your fingertips worked, softly touching the canvas. You furrowed your brows, your mind concentrated.
Here you were, painting an image on the canvas of a girl, her pale skin in warm tones and her hair a deep shade of red.
But there was a twist, the girl was dead.
Her eyes were closed, and she was wrapped in a white sheet, the blood on the canvas concealed the majority of her features.
Sakura Oosawa was Akane's friend and the girl in the painting.
You glanced back and forth between the canvas and the reference picture of Sakura multiple times, trying to match up the features.
Sakura's parents had provided the reference and requested that the painting be preserved as accurately as possible.
Several weeks before, her lying corpse was discovered dead in the girl's bathroom.
She died by 'suicide' for an undisclosed cause, according to sources, yet the case was still being looked into.
Rumors began to circulate, such as 'Maybe it wasn't suicide! Maybe someone murdered her!', which would have made sense.
Despite being a member of the cheerleading squad and friends with Akane, Sakura wasn't particularly well-liked by the other students.
'The school covered it up; I barely saw any news mention of the incident." which is also true given that you thought it was odd that nobody outside of school was talking about it.
Unfortunately, you happened to be at the scene. This also made you a suspect.
After class, you were strolling with Reo. He was talking to you, as usual, complaining about Nagi, but you were only half listening.
