Chapter 15

After there Family holiday Carina couldn't help but long to expand her family.

"I think we should do it now." Maya stated as Carina shared her wish with her. "now?" "Yeah. I mean we aren't getting younger." "Yeah but i don't even know if i can carry or if i have viable eggs to carry." "Well there are two wombs in this relationship." "You would carry?" Carina said confused. "Well yes. If you did it, it would be fine with me, but if you can't, i will. I want another person to love and cuddle."

Maya and Carina exchanged nervous glances as they sat down with Kathy. They had been wrestling with the decision for weeks, unsure of how to broach the subject with her. But now, as they looked into Kathy's eyes, they knew they had to be honest.

"Kathy, Sweety" Maya began, her voice soft yet determined, "there's something important we want to talk to you about."

Kathy looked up from her homework, curiosity flickering in her eyes. "What is it?" she asked, her voice tinged with apprehension. Carina took a deep breath, reaching out to hold Maya's hand for support. "We've been thinking a lot about our family," she explained gently. "And we've decided that we want to try to have another child."

The words hung in the air, as Kathy processed what they had just said. For a moment, there was silence as she searched their faces, trying to gauge their sincerity.

"Another child?" Kathy repeated, her voice barely above a whisper. "But...what about me?"

Maya's heart ached at the fear and uncertainty in Kathy's voice. She reached out to gently squeeze her shoulder, offering her reassurance. "Kathy, you're a member of our family," Maya said earnestly. "Having another child doesn't change that. We love you just as much as we always have, and we always will."
Carina nodded in agreement, her eyes filled with love and understanding. "We want you to be a part of this journey with us," she added. "We want you to feel comfortable talking to us about how you're feeling, and we want to make sure you know that you're always our priority."

Tears welled up in Kathy's eyes as she listened to Maya and Carina's words. For so long, she had feared that their decision to have another child would somehow diminish herplace in their family. With the new baby being biologically theirs. But now, as she looked into their eyes, she saw nothing but love and acceptance shining back at her.

"Thank you," Kathy whispered, her voice choked with emotion. "Thank you for including me in your plans. I love you both so much. I hope it works. I would love to have another brother or sister. But i hope you raise them better than my bio mom raised my brothers." "How?" Carina said laughing. "Well they were spoiled rotten and so mean." "I hope we can do better."

Maya and Carina pulled Kathy into a warm embrace, holding her close as they reveled in the love and unity of their little family.

Now it is a few weeks later. Carina and Maya were sitting in the waiting room of their fertility clinic. They had gone throught a lot of testing and a cycle of fertility drugs to see if Carina could get pregnant. Their greatest fear was that the chemo and radiation had destroyed Carinas eggs and made them not viable. In that case they still could use Mayas eggs to implant it in Carinas womb. However because of Carinas age and her recent medical history they were not sure if Carina could carry at all. It was something that had loomed over Carina for a very long time, but she was still so scared and with the heightend emotions caused by the fertility drugs, she was crying all the time. Now aswell.

"It will be okay, baby. I can carry if you can't and i know you wished to carry for a long time and i hope that you can, but we will find a solution if you can not. " Maya stroked Carinas hair out of her face. "I love you." Maya mouthed and Carina gave her a teary smile.

"Alright. Dr. and Captain Deluca- Bishop. I'm sorry, but it is just like we expected. Dr. Deluca-Bishop your results say that it is extremely unlikely that you can get pregnant and it you do the chances of carrying to term go towards zero."

Dr Baird was a very nice middleage man. He showed the pair the results but Carina couldn't follow. She just started crying and crying. Maya comforted her while Dr baird explained the matter to her. After a while Maya asked the Dr. to hand them out all their results and let them go home. They would book a new appointment when they agreed on what to do next. Maya knew Carina would want to read her results and so she made sure to have them print out everything.

At home Carina ran to hide in their bed and Maya let her. She felt so sorry for her wife. Kathy would have to be picked up around four so Maya quickly got a few tissues, a bottle of water and a banana and placed it next to Carinas side of the bed. All she wanted was to cuddle with her, but it was ten past 3 and it was a fourtyfive minute drive to the lab, so she had to leave now. "I love you. Honey. Okay? I love you and i will hold you tightly when i am back, but i have to pick up Kathy." Carina didn't react. Maya sighed.

Arriving at the lab Maya was early, so she waited. The door opened and closed and evertime Maya thought it was Kathy. But when she finally came out the door, she wasnt alone. Another girl with the same schooluniform came out aswell. She had long blond hair in two braids and a bright green bag. Kathy was talking to her. Freely and without being shy. Maya couldn't believe it. Kathy had made a friend. She was so happy. And when the two girls hugged for good bye, her heart leaped out of her chest. Kathy still didn't let anyone touch her that wasn't Carina or her and that was a hug.

"Why do you smile like that?" Kathy said as she opened the car door " Hello to you. You made a friend?" "That is Cara she is my lab partner ." "And you gave her a hug?" "I guess i did." Kathy answered and her stomach grumbled. "Oh. Sorry. I am really hungry."  The last few weeks Maya and Carina were so happy to see Kathys increased appetite. She was 14 and wearing kids 8-10 clothing. It made them worry but now she seemed to try to catch up. "Lets get something from the drivethrough. My baby made a friend." "Very funny."

An: i have absolutly no idea if that makes sence medically. But you have an imagination so roll with it.
