"They say those who do bad get punished, so why is it that the good souls suffer?"

Rose felt a tug at her covers, but she reluctantly pulled them oved her head.

"Get lost Kev." said Rose pulling the blanket over her shoulder.

Feeling another tug, she furiously turned around and her expression softened instantly.

"Bruno" she said, astonished. "When did you get here?" the curiousity evident in her voice.

"Yeffturway." mumbled Bruno, digging into a bowl of strawberry icecream that was smudged around his lips.

"How come i didn't see you?" asked Rose, confused.

"Bewoz i wuz asweep" Bruno talked in icecream. "Oh..." trailed off Rose.

Just then the door to her room banged open and Kevin entered all sweaty and flushed.

"Oi! What are you doing here?" Kevin said, looking at Bruno with a grimace.

"And why are you wearing my cap?" Kevin asked, pointing at Rose.

"Its not your cap loser." Rose rolled her eyes. "You really gotta get your memory checked."

Bruno's eyes moved to the cap. He opened his mouth to speak but shut it again, eyeing the cap curiously.

"Come downstairs, Gramma Ivory's waiting for you. Its urgent." said Kevin and left the room giving Bruno a glare who didn't hesitate to narrow his eyes at Kevin.

Urgent.

Apparently, she was in trouble.

She went to the bathroom and picked up her durag, replacing it with the cap which she tossed on the bed before leaving the room.

Bruno kept eyeing the cap curiously.

Gramma Ivory looked at Rose over her glasses, sipping her signature tea.

Bruno kept looking between them, excited about the dramatic situation.

"You came home pretty late yesterday right?" Bruno intentionally stressed at the word and looked at Gramma Ivory to entice her.

Rose smiled at him, gritting her teeth and Gramma Ivory cleared her throat.
She continued sipping her tea with her eyes fixed at Rose.

Even Bruno got scared and moved closer to Rose.

Rose knew what was next.
A punishment.

"Dinner." stated Gramma Ivory, her expression stern.

"You cook too?" Bruno asked in shock.

"Trust me you don't wanna tast that," said Rose ruffling his bushy hair.

Just then the door bell rang.

Who could this be? Rose thought getting up. She went up to the door and carefully unbolted it.

There stood a tall, handsome guy with messy hair and light brown eyes. He wore a denim jacket with a white tee and black jeans.

Rose got flustered and had trouble meeting his gaze.

"Hey, is Bruno here?" He asked in his deep voice.

"Yeah he-" she was interrrupted by none other than Bruno who came stumbling with a pack of biscuits in his hand.

"Ash!" Bruno ran up to him wearing the cap she stole that day. Ash patted his head. "Messing around, huh? Come on lets get back." he stated.

He didn't even scold him. What a strange guy, Rose thought.

"Lets go." He said resting his hand on Bruno's back before looking back at Rose with his pale brown eyes as they walked away.

His gaze was overwhelming, but his eyes were out cold with dark circles underneath. He was quite rude.

He was nothing like Bruno.

Nothing.

"Why do I have to help her with dinner? I didn't even do anything," whined Kevin chopping the carrots with a knife.

He and Rose were in the kitchen with Gramma Ivory on vigilation. The sun had set and it was pitch black outside.

"Stop acting like I did not see you sneaking in this morning from the kitchen door." Gramma Ivory smacked his head the upside.

"Gramma this isn't our punishment alone you know" said Rose wiping the sweat off her forehead with her sleeve.

"And how is that?" asked Gramma Ivory crossing her arms.

"Because you have to eat this too." she said pointing at the soup in disgust.

Gramma Ivory giggled. Giggled.

Rose and Kevin shared a horrified look.

"The stomach pills are in the kitchen drawer." She stated walking out the door.

I wonder how mom cooked, Rose wondered, stirring the stew.

She stopped suddenly. It has been quite a while since she thought about her parents.

The pale grey face, green baggy eyes and hollow cheeks of her mother flash across her mind.

She never cooked, Rose recalled. She never knew the reason for that.

Gramma never explained what really happened to their parents. They can't disappear like that.

It can't be just a car accident.

Or what if it never was?

So what do you think actually happened to Rose's parents? Was that a murder? Or something else? Well you gotta keep reading to know that. Stay tuned.
