Chapter: 9

Kody's POV

"I knew they were going to do this crap. They weren't supposed to be trusted in the first place." Mason waved his hands around like a moron, but you could barely see him in the dark alley.

Jace just paced back and forth. He seemed tense a little but that's Jace for you. His shoulders always harden when there's a problem in sight.

"We only made promises to get stronger." Jace mused.

"Breaking them put everyone on our asses." Teddy said. He was under a car, Jace's car, in the back. He never used it but he got it checked up once in a while by the mechanic.

"We need allies." I spoke up. My black-shoe foot tapped in awkward rhythm as I leaned against Teddy's car. It was an old green jeep and when I first saw it, I was surprised. Teddy's more of a pickup truck kind of guy.

"We had a bunch of them until they started going after us. We need allies to defend against ex-allies." Mason laughed until Jace glared at him. Then he just huffed.

"The only one who were involved with us were Cold Chills and Veins. Our best option is Daemon. We can kiss that goodbye." The last sentence was just strange coming out of Jace's mouth. Every word seemed strange when he said it. It was strangely beautiful.

"Leave it to me. See you at the race." I said and before anyone could question my plans, I slid it out of there. I could hear Jace calling me but I ignored it.

Our best option is getting the Night Whips on our side. Daemon won't listen to anyone... that's a man. Who can resist me? The hardest part of this whole thing is putting aside my pride long enough to ask. But there has to be another way. Of course, I won't know how he works until I get to know him...

So I sat in class the next morning as I debated the best way to get Daemon to like me enough to support me. I need to get his attention first. With Trey, I knew him from the beginning. We were neighbors. But if I had to think of the first time I got his attention, it would be The Lawn Clippers incident.

It was in the middle of the night. Trey mowed the lawn that morning and left the equipment out. I had the hugest crush on Trey back then. I was seven years old and had recently moved into the neighborhood. Trey was a skinny twelve year old who used to play baseball. Trey wasn't always soft spoken. He wasn't always cool, calm, and collected. He used to be a loud-mouth, licorice-chewing, stumbling, boney kid with the thickest and craziest hair that flopped all over the place. But between those strands, those sparkling eyes were the cutest I've ever seen.

So he left the lawn equipment out and Trey's bedroom was on the first floor. Earlier, my dad and I had a conversation at the kitchen table that sparked everything. So I guess in a way, my dad was the sole reason I met Trey.

"So, dad?" I blurted out. I remember seeing the boy next door when we moved in the previous week. I was starstruck. I was sitting at the counter, swinging my legs back and forth as my dad made pancakes.

"Yeah?" My dad said lazily. He was standing at the stove flipping pancakes shirtless. I would later find out that my dad was a looker as many girls would find some reason to show up at our door, didn't matter if they were my age at all. The first girl who would use me just to spot my dad shirtless and "marry him someday", which I would meet a week from that day, was a girl named Maya with a button nose. I wouldn't find out that she was a scam until eighth grade when she made a move on my dad. She tried to forcefully kiss him before he pushed her away. Bitch.

"What do I do if I like a boy?" I ask shyly. This was all new to me and my dad knew too. He let out a laugh and I scowled a bit. It was a serious question.
