Chapter: 4

Chase's POV

Damn Kody. Payback's a bitch.

She laughs at me. I laugh back. I always get the last laugh. Always.

So here we were. Kody and I (not "me and Kody") were staring at each other.

I probably shouldn't be caring this much about grammar, seeing as I do belong to a gang, but I couldn't let that moment go. It was too sweet (even if it was dorky).

Kody shot daggers at me. I didn't care as long as her eyes were on me. They made me uncomfortable, but I loved them. They were so dark. They were like a black hole, sucking me in.

I looked around the room. Students figured out that this conversation was over and raised their hands. I picked on blonde over there to see if it annoyed Kody. To my disappointment, she and Jeremy were staring at each other.

Fine. If I don't get her attention, than she doesn't get mine. I put my full attention on Blonde. She has the same colored hair as my cousin Victoria.

"Hi, I'm Emily but you can call me Em. How old are you?" She batted her eyes.

"Um, ahem." I had a feeling that there was this unspoken teacher rule that I wasn't supposed to tell students my age but I am young. So I looked back to the blonde and smiled.

"22." I said with a sincere voice. She looked so much like Vicky that it was weird. Vicky was my favorite cousin. Even though they didn't have the same personality, I couldn't help but be nice to this girl, this girl who looked so much like Vic.

My eyes flicked back to Kody. She was glaring at Em now. This is so damn cliché.

That was exactly when Kody got up, slammed her hand on her desk, bent down and picked her bag up, slung it over her shoulder and walked out of the room in long strides. The door slammed behind her. It was loud enough to make the whole class flinch.

Em on the other hand looked victorious. Jeremy had a small smile and Kylie had her eyebrows raised.

And I? I was smiling. Until I remembered that Mason and Kody were out ditching, probably together.

I shouldn't have chased her out. No pun intended.

Kody's POV

Blood rushed to my cheeks. I made that too dramatic. But I was upset. What did you expect?

Jeremy, that douche! That stupid motherfucking idiot. He has no shame! After all we've been through? He's repaid me like this?

He's dating Em! He's dating Em! Ugh! Freak!

Jeremy dated me. The least he could do was not date HER after we broke up. I love Jeremy. I really do. But sometimes, the guy has no brain. I don’t even know why I’m so bothered about this. It’s not jealousy.

I walked down the hall and reached the stairs where I made my way down. I made a sharp turn from there and walked straight until I reached the doors to the cafeteria. I opened them and went in.

The whole room was in full swing as it always is. A school is not what the movies make it out to be. Sure there's people you love and people you hate but there is no cliché groups. There are groups still. There is just no way to describe them.

I made my way to the back and sat at an empty table. I'm not ready to walk around the cafeteria like a lost fool looking for people I know so I could sit with them.

I laid my head down on the cool table top and felt the coolness on my warm forehead. My hair drooped around my face. I probably looked like a dying monster.
