Chapter Seventeen: Love Like This

Elyse's POV

Alex sat behind me in the bath, planting soft kisses on my neck and jaw. He had been so attentive to me since finding out we were pregnant. It was honestly adorable. Luna was in bed and Ethan was out to a movie with Steph.

"It was sweet of you to start reading to Luna before bed." Alex started a new tradition between the two of them when we moved into the new house. She had seen the first Harry Potter movie on TV and she loved it. Alex read her a chapter every night before bed.

"It was something my mom always did for me. She would do it for just me since our house could be so chaotic sometimes." He rubbed my arms softly and I smiled. "I want to do it with all our children, though."

"That's sweet." I smiled to myself. Alex kissed my shoulder. "I'm starting to feel a little pruny. Is it okay if we get out of the bath?" I asked him and he nodded his head. He reached over and grabbed a towel to hand to me. I stood up and wrapped my body. My hair was up in a loose bun so that it didn't get wet. I dried off and put on my pajamas while Alex got out of the bath and pulled the plug on the drain. Alex always just wore his boxers to sleep.

"I'm gonna go downstairs and make some popcorn. We can watch a movie." He told me when we turned down the bed. I smiled and nodded my head. I got into bed and turned on the TV. I put on The Princess Diaries. This was one of my favorite movies from when I was a teenager.

"Mommy, I had a bad dream," Luna told me when Alex carried her into the bedroom. I reached out for her and Alex put her down next to me, but she was still lying in my arms.

"It was just a dream, my love. It's okay." I kiss the top of her head. Alex left the room for a few minutes and when he came back, he had a bowl of popcorn, two water bottles, and a sippy cup of milk for Luna.

"Thank you, daddy." She settled in next to me and started drinking her milk, her eyes on the screen. Alex handed me a water bottle before climbing into bed on the other side of Luna. He rested his arm around both of us, watching the TV. Luna was back asleep within 10 minutes. Alex was munching on his popcorn, his eyes on the screen. We had probably seen this movie 4 or 5 times since we started dating three and a half months ago. He didn't mind at all.

"Do you want some?" He asked when he noticed I was staring at him. I smiled slightly and shook my head.

"I was just looking at my handsome husband," I responded softly, running my fingers through Luna's hair. Alex's whole face lit up and it made my heart light up too.

"I love you." He whispered, resting his head on the headboard while looking at me.

"I love you too," I whispered back. He smiled and then looked back at the TV screen. He was honestly so sweet. I couldn't believe I had fallen in love so quickly with this man. I shifted in bed so that I could rest my cheek on the top of Luna's head. Before I could think about anything else, I fell asleep.

When I woke up in the morning, Alex's arms were wrapped securely around the two of us. We were facing each other, making a little cocoon around Luna. I smiled slightly and just took in my little family until Alex's alarm went off. My office was closed for Labor Day so Steph and I had the day off. Alex groaned softly and rolled over, turning off the alarm.

"I'm sorry, did my alarm wake you?" Alex asked, rolling back over, his hand resting gently on my hip. I shook my head.

"I've been awake for a little while." I smiled at him and looked down at Luna. She was sucking her thumb and sleeping peacefully.
