It'd been at least 2 weeks since I'd seen Caius, but since we'd been texting non stop, it was safe to say he was still into me. He has been extremely busy with work lately, and seemingly stressed out.
We didn't have sex, as we both wanted to get to know each other better. I was very happy to find that he and I stood in agreement, regarding the ideal that sex is a sacred act. When you become intimate with someone, you are giving them a direct line to your soul. And it was evident to the both of us, that we hadn't known enough about each other to feel comfortable. So instead, we played chess while sipping the sweetest of red wines, eating the charcuterie board he just so casually pulled out of his fridge.
My thoughts are interrupted by a loud riiiing of my phone, scaring the shit out of me, if I'm being honest. It usually does, as I got used to the silence of solitude. Isolation felt like the best option after my mom passed, as I felt too mentally unstable to respond properly to intense situations.
I look at the screen, swiping the green 'answer' button.
"Jade, what's up?" I say, heading in to my kitchen. I grab a container of grapes out, sitting at my kitchen table as I listen to my sister talk. "Well, I just wanted to see how it went with Sir Mixalot." she jokes, and I couldn't help but laugh at her cheesy, shitty, yet for some reason hilarious, pun. "I think that would work better if he was the DJ at the club, not the owner of it. But it went really well." I answer, inspecting the grape I'd grabbed before putting it in my mouth. "Did you guys fuck?" she asked confidently, to which I'd almost choked on the grape I'd had in my mouth. "God, Jade- no. We didn't. We want to spend more time figuring each other out before we entertain that." I respond, a chortle coming from the other end of the line. "That's good, I guess. You never know if he's some mob boss, or super psycho killer. He's hot either way." She says and I agree. "If he were to kill me, it'd be an honor. His jawline is so sharp, he could actually slit my throat if he moved too fast." I joke and am met with a laugh and a snort.
"That's just brutal. Anyways, I just wanted to check on you- maybe see if you'd heard from Dad at all. He's supposed to be in town within the next few weeks, but I'm not sure when. Let me know if you hear from him?" and I nod my head in response, forgetting she can't see me. "Yeah, I will. I love you." I say and she replies a quick 'You too' before hanging up.
I check to see if my dad has texted me, and unsurprisingly, he has not. I somewhat slam my phone down onto the table, and I groan as I remember the last thing my dad said to me, which was to get a real job. He never believed in my music like my mom, as he believes that when I say "I wanna be a famous music artist someday" what I'm actually saying is "I'm gonna be homeless and pregnant at 30."
Him and my mom would argue all the time, as she hated the fact he never took me seriously, which I hated just as much. It's the exact reason I am getting my Bachelor's for this shit. Because at that point, who wouldn't take me seriously?
I snicker to myself as I eat one last grape, putting the container back into the fridge. I'm just about to head to my bedroom to finish my last bit of my homework, being interrupted by a knock at the front door. I hadn't been expecting anyone, so my anxiety spiked for a moment.
I look toward the door, unsure of if I should answer or not. My brain cells decided to work and I remembered I have a peephole on my door, so I look through to see my father standing on the other side, looking quite impatient. I unlock the door and open it, a wide smile replacing the grimace he'd worn a second ago.
"J-Bug!" My dad yells, opening his arms wide and stepping into my apartment. "Daddy, hi!" I say, embracing him. He squeezes me a little before backing up, holding me by my shoulders. "Let me get a good look at my little girl." He says, examining my face. I smile awkwardly and he laughs, giving me another hug before going over to the couch to sit down.
