It was frustrating to know that Cronus wasn't at the spot where Poseidon's crown was hidden. If he had Jade, it would've been really convenient for him to be there.
We arrived, seeing that everything was perfectly in place. The only difference being that a few steps away from the lake, a circle had been scorched into the dirt and grass.
We walk into the underground room to see Poseidon's crown, still sitting perfectly in place.
"You're sure he has Jade?" Caius asks, taking the crown and putting it under his hoodie, his waistband holding it in place.
"No. But, I think the only reason the crown is still here, is because I don't think he knew where to look." I say as we walk back up the steps.
We get to the top and stand next to the lake, Caius looking at me as he drags his hand down, putting the cold water back into place.
Just as we get to the trail, my phone rings.
"Jade!" I say, relieved that she'd returned my call.
"Hey- I'm sorry I missed your call. We just got to the hotel. We decided on going to Florida, since it's super nice here and I figured we needed a little Malibu action. You okay?" she asks, and a sigh of relief escapes my lips.
"Yes- I'm fine. I just wanted to see if you guys had made it yet." I say, looking at Caius as we speed walk to his car.
"Caius and I are going on a road trip." I say, getting in. Caius closes the door behind me and gets into his side.
"Road trip? You hate road trips. Where are you going?" she asks.
"Uh-" I look at Caius, mouthing 'where are we going?' to which he mouths back 'Montana.'
"Montana." I say and she laughs.
"You guys are going on a road trip- to Montana? You hate the country. What's really going on?" she asks, and I feel a lump in my throat. I wanted so badly to tell her, but I couldn't. I didn't want to risk Cronus finding her.
"We just decided it might be nice to get out of the city for a while and go somewhere more... quiet. My house got broken into, and I need some peace." I respond and Caius smiles softly, seemingly pleased with my answer.
"Okay... well, I guess just call me when you get there so I know you made it safe?" she says, to which I agree.
"I love you, JBug."
"I love you too, JJ." I say, hanging up the phone.
"So, he doesn't have Jade. How did he get into your dream?" he asks, pulling onto the freeway.
"I don't know how he got into my dream, but it makes sense why Hestia wasn't there now." I say and he nods.
"Are you hungry? We can stop in a couple hours and get some food, if you want?" he says and I nod. "I'm starving." I say, looking back out the window.
Caius reaches for my hand, and I quickly pull it away.
He could tell I was still upset with him.
"Look, Jasmine.. I'm sorry I yelled at you earlier. I'm just kind of panicking myself, right now. It won't happen again." He says, grabbing my hand and kissing it.
"It doesn't matter. We just need to focus on getting as far away from Cronus as possible." I say blankly, staring at the mountains.
He sighs, but doesn't push any further.
"Why Montana?" I ask, finally looking at Caius after an hour of pouting.
"You can be off grid, which makes hiding, way easier. My family has a vacation house near Flathead Lake. It's out past Polson, Montana. About an 9 hour drive, more like 6, now. It'll be a nice little getaway, before we have to deal with the shit storm that's approaching." he says, looking over at me. I nod, looking back out the window as I try to regulate my emotions.
