Hannah wandered around the forest aimlessly; she walked around with a little kitten trailing behind her.
It was a twilight forest in the freezing cold night. She shivered; it was all she could do as she sat down.

"Come on, Maya." She stammered as the kitten pattered over to her. Hannah reached into her bag, pulling out a sandwich and a small can of cat food.
Immediately after Hannah opened it, Maya began eating. Hannah didn't blame her as she took nibbles of her sandwich. It was the first piece of food they'd had today.

Suddenly, as the two ate, a rumble emerged, slowly getting nearer to them. The shadow of a man crept closer and closer. Startled, the cat would scurry away.

"Maya, come back!" She yelled, though she didn't move; the fear froze her in place.

This was no man. It was a large, monstrous-looking figure. It stared down at Hannah as it licked her lips with a grin.

"A meal, too bad the snack ran away." It frowned mockingly as Hannah realized the danger she was in and began running.

She hadn't seen anything like it; it was a humanoid figure with big teeth and unnatural features. It followed behind her as it roared. She turned back-a big mistake. As she tripped and tumbled down a hill, everything went black.

All she saw were flashes, similar to pictures; the earth rumbled as the beast was dragged down by vines and buried alive in the ground. Hannah's eyes fluttered open.

A curly-haired girl stood over her, towels in her hands. With her remaining strength, she looked around, seeing beds, and her half-closed eyes finally met the girl.

"You're pretty." Hannah muttered before blacking out again.

She didn't know how long had passed, but she woke up. Getting up, Hannah would touch her forehead and wince. There was a bandage there. What happened while she was unconscious?

Hannah would walk around the room she was in; was this the place her mom had told her about?

Her thoughts would be interrupted by a curly-haired girl entering the room. Hannah had seen her before, when she was recovering.

Getting a good look at her, Hannah saw her dark brown eyes and curly brown hair. She looked around Hannah's age. Her shirt was orange and had a pegasus on it; surrounding it were the words, CAMP HALF BLOOD.

Clarisse only rolled her eyes as she turned, putting her head through the door to the outside. "Chiron, the girl's awake."
Hannah was confused by the mention of Camp Half Blood on the girl's shirt. As she followed the girl outside, she couldn't help but feel a sense of curiosity building inside her.

As they left the hospital, Hannah's shock would only grow as a man with horse legs galloped over to her and introduced himself as Chiron, the centaur and activities director at Camp Half Blood.

"Hello Hannah, I assume you're confused, aren't you?" Hannah only nodded at his words as her eyes fixated on his horse legs, trying to process the surreal sight before her. Chiron chuckled, a twinkle in his eyes, before explaining to her.

"Where's Maya?" Hannah looked around for the kitten, but Maya was nowhere to be found.

Chiron noticed her distress. "If you're looking for the kitten, don't worry; it's in the cabin that you'll be staying in. You're lucky your cat helped us find you."

This made Hannah smile; she was going to give Maya extra food when she saw her.

"You're at Camp Half Blood, the training ground for demigods like yourself."
