(Oana's POV)

I have been pacing around the strategy room for what felt like time had been hit with a freeze spell. I could not stop myself from thinking of the worst. What if the little wolf was captured by the jackal? What if he fell into a dark abyss below the bridge? Or something worse that my head cannot handle? Fear settled into my chest and stomach, making me more worried for the little pup.

But then, the door opened to reveal the blue rodent and the red wolf. I let out the biggest sigh of relief as I ran up to him and pulled him into my embrace. The wolf froze for a second before wrapping his arms around me. I pulled away from him and looked at him up and down. "Are you alright? Nothing hurting? Nothing reopened? Nothing happened, correct?"

Gadget smiled at me as he reassured me he was fine. I let out another sigh before pulling him close again. "Please contact me when you are finished and safe."

I felt him nod his head as I watched his tail wag. I smiled at the small movement before I heard someone clear their throat. I looked over my shoulder to see the blue rodent standing there. "Hello? You're welcome for keeping your little wolf safe and sound and not dead," he said while crossing his arms.

I walked up to him with a cold stare, holding the little pup close to me. The blue rodent's eyes widened and his body started to shake. As I stood a foot away from him, I let out a small huff before saying, "Thank you for keeping your word, Hedgehog."

I spun around to leave the room as I heard the rodent gasp for air as if he was holding it for too long. I rolled my eyes as I exited the room with the red wolf in my arms. But before I could leave, the little yellow fox entered the room with excitement in his voice. "Guys! I figured out a way to stop Eggman's Phantom Ruby!"

"Great work, Tails!" Sonic cheered for his little companion, messing with the little fox's fur. Tails let out a little laugh before connecting his screen device to the main operator and produced a big holographic screen. It showed different readings on the files I found a few days ago, along with an image of the Phantom Ruby with some labels attached.

"Based on these readings, the Phantom Ruby requires an incredible amount of energy, which only the Death Egg can provide."

The readings Tails explained revealed themselves on the hologram before revealing an image of the Death Egg. A shiver ran down my spine as the memories were of that thing. I hate space.

Tails continued. "We simply stop the energy transfer and boom, the Phantom Ruby is practically useless."

I started to think to myself. The gem is powered by the Death Egg, but it appears to be operating perfectly well with the jackal. What if it was false? That the files are no longer connected to the main resource of the doctor. I kept quiet and I continued to listen.

"First, we distract Eggman. While he's not paying attention, we use the Chemical Plant computer to hack into the Death Egg's weapon systems and shut it down."

I let out a sigh of relief. Thank the goddess I would not be sent to space again. Everyone continued to talk as my mind focused on the Phantom Ruby again. How will this operation work? Will it work? Is the gem not powered by the Death Egg? If yes, then what is it powered by? I thought of the jackal. The ruby is in his chest, closest to his heart. The closest resource to power. Fear settled into my chest at the possibility that this operation would not work. I kept my worries to myself. I need to rest. We all do.

My ear flicked at the suggestion of sending Gadget on this distraction operation. I stepped in. "You are not doing that! We are not succeeding in this distraction now! He needs to rest! You can do your little game tomorrow morning!" I pulled the little wolf with me out of the room.
