SPENCER

"Why would you even let her move into your house without checking with me first?"

I was boiling inside, for all the wrong reasons.

"Spence, you've been going at it for a whole week. I'm sick of it!" Darnell replied, repositioning himself on the couch.

They were at Spencer's place after Darnell's doctor's appointment, waiting for Olivia to pick up her new roommate.

"As long as I don't get a clear answer, I won't drop it."

"Then ask Olivia, for God's sake! You all are giving me anxiety!"

"It makes no sense for her to move in with you when her parents have not one, but two houses!"

"Not sure that it works like that. The Beverly Hills house is packed full. It's fine to go for a few days, but to permanently share a room with Patience or Coop? I don't think that'd be ideal."

"I thought you didn't know why."

"I'm speculating here. The second option seems fine, but have you forgotten what Liv went through last year, with psycho Chris? I guess that she didn't want to be alone, with her mom traveling so much lately."

"She should have stayed with me, then!" I exclaimed, getting back to my initial point.

"It defeats the whole purpose of this time apart, Spencer! Even I understand that. You need to be honest with yourself and admit that you're still upset with her eavesdropping on your therapy session."

Admitting anything to anyone other than Olivia made no sense to me. As messed up as the whole situation was, I could not fathom Liv living with any other man than me. It was unbearable to even consider.

"Tell her to leave."

"Are you out of your mind? Why would I do that?"

"Darnell, she's my fiancée! I'm supposed to be the one taking care of her, not someone else."

Darnell let out another annoyed sigh, probably feeling overwhelmed by my insistence.

"Olivia also moved in with me because I got injured, and she believes it's her fault. The day you found me on the floor, I was actually on the phone with her and got distracted, so I lost my footing and fell. She feels that she owes me the help, and I'm grateful that she moved in." He explained.

"What are you even saying?"

"She's helping me with physical therapy, moving around the house, going to appointments, and... dealing with my break-up. So, I guess what I'm saying is that I don't hate the company. Being alone sometimes sucks." Darnell admitted.

I was shocked at the reveal because I had no idea that Darnell and Maï were over. Feeling bad for my egotistic behavior when he was dealing with so much, physically and emotionally, I sat down facing him.

"I'm sorry, man. I didn't know."

"Yeah... It hurts like hell."

"Why didn't you tell me?"

Darnell let out a dry chuckle, before replying. I didn't know if I was ready to hear what he was going to dish out.

"How was I going to confide in someone who doesn't even have his relationship under control? Spencer, you've been neglecting Liv for a long time now, and it's not even funny at this point. Take this from someone who just lost the love of his life because he didn't do the right thing. We do not have the time nor the energy for all the bull crap. In years, when football is gone, where do you see yourself?"
