Fighting crime was not in her plans in the slightest. In fact, Ryujin had long given up on a career in law enforcement as she once had considered. Yet suddenly a change that was as unpredictable as it was shocking had given her powers beyond her imagination. The spike in crime in the surroundings of Seoul pushing for her to use the newfound powers for good. Despite the fact she was still trying to find her bearings. It was difficult to control powers she didn't really understand.
Luckily her research on the webs coming out from her body had paid off. After a lot of research and tinkering with the formula, she had figured out a way to create a device that helped make her webbing stronger. It had taken a while but she managed to design and engineer the gadget to be placed on her wrist and support her power. Making the webs flow better, be stronger and giving her more control over them. All of which helped her.
The sticking had also been under control for the most part, except for whenever she got nervous. Most of the time it was under control, until she ran into Yeji or had an interaction with her and suddenly she would be sticking to random objects and embarrassing herself. Luckily that didn't really happen when she had to save the day.
Not that she had saved many days. Ryujin had mostly helped with small tasks such as taking cats off trees or tripping pickpockets. And once even helped a stranded couple from being stuck in a broken elevator for hours.
Unfortunately none of it was too exciting but she presumed all heroes started small. She had to build a reputation and it helped her train and fix her gadgets to be ready for whenever she encountered a real crime. Something actually dangerous.
Ryujin was in school late, working on developing the photography from the previous school event. They needed it ready the next day so she had to stay behind and work on it. Even though everyone else was already gone. Well, almost everyone.
Yeji was still there. Working on their cover piece and making sure their layout was perfect. She took what she did seriously, which Ryujin admired. It was nice to see someone who loves and cares about what they do. Passion was a sight to behold.
Her hood was up, despite having no need for it. She enjoyed the comfort that it brought her, for whatever reason. It was something she did often. A song playing although only loud enough for her to hear it inside the dark room. Yeji wouldn't be able to hear it, she didn't want to distract her from the work she was doing.
Humming to the song, she finished hanging up the photographs and smiled proudly at her work. All was done for the day and so she got to go home. Of course, she would first check on Yeji.
Her music was still playing but this time from the headphones around her neck, her hood still up and a smile on her face as she knocked on the wall next to Yeji's desk, catching her attention. "I'm all done for today. Fancy some company on your walk home?" she questioned, watching Yeji look up and ponder on her suggestion.
"Sure. All these words are blending together at this point, I won't get anything else done today."
"Great. Let's get this show on the road then." she let out, unable to hide the smile on her face.
They locked up, Yeji had the keys to the room they used, so they always made sure to lock up behind them. Otherwise the school would probably kick them out of the club. And then they began their walk.
"Are you going to Yeonjun's party?" Yeji asked, probably trying to make conversation since they were walking together.
Apparently Yeji would be attending which of course, made Ryujin more sure than ever that she wouldn't miss it for the world. It wasn't often that the two of them would attend the same parties. Mostly because Ryujin barely attended any. Because she was rarely invited to them but that's besides the point.
"What's up with the masks thing?" Yeji questioned, looking curious about it.
The mention of masks had her pause for a split second until she realized the party in question required those attended wear masks. "That? I think he mentioned something about girls dressing in slutty costumes. I stopped hearing after that." she shook her head, her friend could be such a cliche of a teenage boy. Although it was obviously meant to be a joke, she couldn't help but to cringe at it.
"God, teenage boys are disgusting." Yeji let out, making her chuckle. She hadn't expected her to say something of the sort. If anything she was probably the most likely to enjoy teenage boys being all into girls like her. Ryujin would often see how they'd trip over their own feet trying to impress Yeji.
Unfortunately Ryujin was far from the only one noticing Yeji. She had a lot of competition, although she could at the very least offer a quick ride to the top of buildings, she had a lot of people to beat to get to Yeji.
On their way home, a police car drove by, sirens indicating something was going on. Both of them glancing over at it. Ryujin felt her heart race, something in her wanting to make an excuse and chase after it. Maybe she could help. Then again, she was just starting to understand her powers, she would likely be useless.
"Isn't your father a cop?" she asked, curious about what Yeji's father thought of the rise in crime. Surely he had to have a strong opinion about it.
Yeji nodded, understanding where she was getting at. "I really don't know when Seoul got so dangerous. I've never seen him so stressed about work."
"Yeah, probably not a good idea to be walking around by yourself." Ryujin shrugged, glancing at the other before looking back to the pavement ahead. "I'm really into walking these days, if you need company."
The other girl laughed, going as far as nudging her. Whatever people said about bad flirting was wrong because it worked wonders. At least it got Yeji laughing and that was more than enough to her.
"Really? I could have sworn you had given an excuse to get out of the last time we had to run in PE."
"I said walk, not run. Let's not get ahead of ourselves. I'm a gentlewoman, not a masochist." she argued, feigning offense in the implication she would willingly run.
Yeji rolled her eyes, "Oh you're a gentlewoman. I see, my apologies for the confusion."
"I don't appreciate your tone, Hwang. My therapist will be hearing about this." she joked, both of them starting to laugh.
It was nice to talk to Yeji, even if nothing said was of any substance. But then she really appreciated the moments when nothing was heavy. When Ryujin could just be silly, relax and laugh. And of course, she loved to see Yeji do the same. Her laughter the sound she wished to hear every day.
