As you regained your balance, you found yourself caught in a moment of intimacy with Kayn. His arms wrapped securely around you, his gaze locked with yours, an unspoken connection bridging the space between you.
"Thanks," you muttered, the sudden proximity stirring a flurry of emotions within you.
Kayn's expression softened, his eyes reflecting a mixture of concern and something deeper, something you couldn't quite place.
"Shit, you okay?" he asked, his voice gentle as he studied your face for any signs of distress.
You nodded, offering a reassuring smile despite the lingering sense of vulnerability. "Yeah, just startled by the thunder. I'm fine."
Kayn chuckled softly, his voice tickling you in the right places.
"You really aren't a fan of lightning and thunder during rainstorms huh?" He quipped.
"Correct, madam."
Kayn's lips curved into a gentle smile, his eyes holding an unspoken warmth that melted away the tension between you. "You'll get used to them after a while. Just have to remember they're more bark than bite."
His words resonated with a deeper truth, offering solace amidst the tempest of uncertainty that surrounded your lives.
The moment passed too quickly, interrupted by the sudden realization of your proximity. With a soft clearing of your throat, you gently extricated yourself from Kayn's arms, the warmth of his touch lingering like an echo.
"Right, well, I should probably go get some clothes for you to change into," you mumbled, cheeks flushed with a mixture of embarrassment and something you couldn't quite name.
"Uh, bathroom's that way." You pointed. "You can go ahead and take a shower."
With a quick nod, Kayn made his way to the bathroom while you hurriedly retreated to your room to fetch some clothes for him. As you rummaged through your closet, your mind raced with a whirlwind of thoughts and emotions.
"Okay, [Name], get it together." you muttered to yourself, trying to shake off the lingering effects of Kayn's proximity.
Despite your attempts at self-reassurance, your heart betrayed you, fluttering at the memory of his touch and the warmth of his gaze. With a frustrated sigh, you focused on the task at hand, selecting a set of clothes for Kayn before heading back to the bathroom.
As you reached the door, you realized you forgot to get Kayn a towel. Internally facepalming, you turned around to fetch it.
Upon returning, you could hear the sound of running water inside. Letting out a breath you didn't know you have been holding in, you knocked.
"Kayn?" You called out. "I got the clothes and a towel."
There was a brief pause before Kayn's voice responded, slightly muffled by the water. "Thanks, [Name]. Can you just leave them on the counter? I kinda forgot to lock the door."
You blinked in surprise at the request, realizing that Kayn must have forgotten to lock the door. With a slight blush creeping onto your cheeks, you left the door ajar before silently placing the clothes and towel on the bathroom counter, trying to ignore the thudding of your heart as you imagined Kayn behind the shower curtain.
With a soft click, you closed the door, leaving Kayn to his privacy. As you made your way back to your room, you couldn't shake off the feeling of unease that lingered in the back of your mind. But you forced yourself to focus on other things, deciding to bury yourself in your studies to distract yourself from the whirlwind of emotions swirling inside you.
