Tara's P.O.V
I look up from the half-dug hole, making this my second for the day as Pendanski pulls in with the truck, his condescending smile as present as ever.
"Come on, boys and gal! Lunch!" Mom calls out.
"Where's your whip, Caveman? Don't want your slave to start slacking off." Armpit derides.
"It's not slavery, it's agreement." Caveman defends back.
"Yeah, whatever." 'Pit sucks his teeth. I rolled my eyes while getting in line, Squid and Zig-Zag in hushed whispers in the back of the line behind me.
"We have bologna and cheese, apples and graham crackers. Get your sandwich!-" I turn back slowly at the two, both of their attention turning to me ever so innocently and casually, Squid sending a finger wave with a friendly nod. This only gains my suspicion further, turning my gaze back to Zig-Zag, who had turned his gaze elsewhere, and I knew he wasn't going to meet my eye anytime soon. I look back to Squid, giving him a hard look before looking away from them harshly, turning back around in line. Pendanski smiled fakely, to which I sarcastically returned while grabbing my food.
"Krystara." He greets, always hoping using our real names would set us off. It does a good amount of the times, especially with X-Ray.
"Mommy Dearest." I nod, his smile falling flat. I ignore the snorts behind me, returning to my hole and jumping down to eat in solitude. I open up my sandwich to each, turning around and leaning against the back of the hole wall to support me as I look around at the others. Immediately narrowing my eyes as Zig-Zag makes his way for Caveman, kicking his foot once he nears him.
"Hey. How about I give you my cookie, and you let me dig your hole." He goads, a taunting smirk as Stanley grows quiet and stares at his apple. My eyes roll up into my head, thudding it against the dirt behind me. Just harmless hassling, right? No, Zero's very protective of Stanley. He was ready to swing on a kid with a cue ball..
Zig-Zag refuses to let it die, crouching down and holding the graham cracker towards him. Insisting.
"Okay, look, I get it. I'll dig my own hole from now on." Caveman defuses, eating his apple. Ziggy stood up and chuckles to himself like it was a joke. My eyes tore away from them two, looking at Zero who was growing tense. The tension was thick anyways, the natural feeling before a fight breaks out was high, even more now seeing Zero look like he was about to react.
