Part 15: War is Over

Minx POV:

We have been walking through streets, knocking on every house and looking out for girls newsies. My crowd has grown as we walk through Manhattan. We all walk towards Pulitzers building where Jack said he'll be. We walk down the street that heads straight towards the building. All the girls follow behind me. All of them starts cheering as they see Jack and his newsies stand at the Horton Greenly statue. Then turn my head and see Spot with boys newsies. I instantly smiled. We all head over, crowding in front of Pulitzer building. I stand at the entrance of the building, looking at the big crowd.

"Nice seeing you again, doll" I hear a familiar voice. I turn around and see Spot with a signature smirk.

"Spot!" I say as I jump into his arms. We both connect our lips.

"I thought I'll never see you again.." I say as I lean my forehead into his.

"Oh doll, I'll do anything to see you.." Spot says as he looking into my eyes.

"I love you..." I say as I look back at him with a smile.

"I love you too, doll" Spot says with a loving smile. Then from the side we see Jack and David stand in front of the doors.

"Alright! Thank you all for coming to the strike to show the big guys not to mess with us newsies! And I just want to thank Minx and Spot for joining in as well and gathering all boys and girls for this" Jack says as he looks at both me and Spot. Everyone starts cheering.

"Now! Me and David are gonna go in and make Pulitzer know that we're here! And to drop the price on the papes!" Jack says as he puts a hand on David's shoulder. Everyone cheers as both Jack and David go into the building.

We all patiently wait for Jack and David. Both me and Spot stand in front of the gate of the newspapers place. (Please tell me if you know what it's called 😪)

"So how'd you know I joined the strike again?" I say as I hold his hand into mine.

"I heard from little birdies" Spot says with a smile.

"Wow, word goes around fast, huh?" I say with a chuckle. We both wait a couple of seconds, before we see both Jack and David walking out the gate.

"Heya fellas! Jack and David are over here!" Spot calls for the others. They all come running out.

"So Jack? What happened?" Race says as we all gather around him. Jack bends down to Les's height and whispers something into his ear. He then picks up Les and puts him on his shoulders.

"We beat it!" Jack shouts. Everyone starts cheering, yelling, and hats being thrown. Both me and Spot hug each other tightly with bright smiles on our faces. Once I let go, I see Nova celebrating with Race. I go up to her and quickly hug her, making her surprised then soon hugged me back. We all then turn around to face the gate to the newspapers, and seeing Mr. Weasel, Oscar and Morris walk out. Everyone starts booing while all three make their way through the crowd. We all continue to celebrate, to then see a carriage with Snyder and a Bull seating down. Spot tightly grabs my hand and stands in front of me. Jack and the others try to run away, only to be stopped by Denton.

"Jack! Hey, you're okay. He's not gonna get you. No need to run" Denton says as he holds Jack arm, preventing him to run. In the carriage, walks out boys who were in the refuge. Last one was in crutches, who might be one of Jack's newsies. "You won't be seeing much of him anymore. Say goodbye Warden" Denton says.

"Goodbye Warden!" Everyone says as we all watch Snyder in the carriage get taken away.

"Can't believe Jack! He came in walking in pointing his cane around with an army full of Bulls-" A newsies known as Crutchy, tells Jack.

"Who comes storming in?" Jack says.

"Oh you know! Your friend! Him! Teddy Roosevelt!" Crutchy says as he points to where Teddy was. He was in his carriage, shaking hands with everyone. All of the boys eyes go wide.

"I told him you'll need a ride.. he'll be happy to take you." Denton says to Jack.

"Can he take me to the Train yards?" Jack says.

"If that's what you want"

Jack nods and both him and Denton make their way to Teddy Roosevelt in his carriage with everyone following. Jack then goes on the carriage, waving goodbye as they start driving away. I look back and see Sarah and Les crying with David comforting them as Jack leaves, breaking my heart. I hold Spots hand and both as well as all the newsies walk back into the newspaper window to collect their paper like old time. David starts off first, placing his quarter down. Everyone cheers. Then we all hear from afar, cheers heading towards our direction. We all turn around and see...

"Jack!" Everyone says happily. They all start to crowd around him. Jack looks at David.

"So how's the headline?" Jack says with a slight smile.

"Headline's don't sell papes.. newsies sell papes" David says as everyone starts cheering. I turn around to smile at David and from the corner of my eye, I see both Sarah and Jack smooching. Everyone starts yelling and cheering as they pat Jack's back.

"Hey, Mr? Mind if we have a ride to Brooklyn?" Spot says as he pulls me to Teddy's carriage asking the driver.

"Not at all! Hop on" He says with a smile. Both me and Spot jump on and sit at the back. As leaving the newspapers, everyone shoots both of our names. Both of us start waving, bye's.

It took about 5 minutes to get to Brooklyn Bridge. We both got off the carriage and thanked the driver. As he goes, both me and Spot start walking on the bridge.

"So.. you gonna go back to Queens now that the strikes over...?" Spot says as he looks at me.

"Still thinking about it.." I say back. We both stop at the middle of the bridge, where I sunset perfectly lines up with us.

"You know we can think of a way... us not separating" Spot says as he holds both my hands.

"How about we combine our territories? Expand?" I say as I look at him.

"Expand?" He says confused.

"Yes. We've been at war with each other long ago because we wanted to expand. How about we just combine territories?" I say, slightly hoping he'll say yes.

"That's not a bad idea, doll" He says with a smirk. I smile. He then wraps his arms around me and I wrap mine around his neck.

"Now we'll be together from now until the end.. I love you, Doll" Spot says as he looks in my eye.

"I love you too, love" I say as I stare into his eyes. We both lean in and kiss as the nice sunset shines at us... I'm a Brooklyn Baby...
