It' has been a while now. She feels anxious again. She can't find him anywhere.

It's been a while.

Actually, it's been more than a while: a few decades. But again, not nearly as long as the last time. He was gone for centuries. How can he disappear like that? She feels scorned. It irks her to no end that he doesn't want her. Why doesn't he want her? Her mind seems hazy sometimes. Most of the times, lately. She scoffs. She will find him. But for now, she looks for her next prey.

Selene is perched on the rooftop of a faculty building, on the city's campus. She likes her men young and the students here are of the right age. Heavy clouds have gathered earlier this afternoon and now rain is pouring down on her and on everyone causing them all to open their umbrellas making it difficult for her to see their faces. She likes her men handsome.

Someone caught her eye. Finally!

Goodness! Could it be? Here of all places?

A young man runs through the rain towards the building. He holds his books over his head to cover himself a bit, although he is pretty much soaking wet. He is tall, with dark hair and quite an athletic body. He is startled as he sees someone appear in front of him out of nowhere. Selene has just landed in front of him, searching his face intently. They lock eyes for a split second. The young man blinks and whoever was in front of him is gone. He looks around in bewilderment. What was that? Maybe his eyes are playing tricks on him. Rain and dim afternoon light can certainly blur one's vision.

That is exactly what Selene thinks. It wasn't him! For a brief moment she got excited. But when she stood in front of the man, he wasn't that tall; his eyes were a warm shade of honey gold and his hair dark brown. Although he reminded her of her elusive Angel, it wasn't him. She frowns, perched again on the rooftop. She follows the young man with her gaze.

Well, why not? She needs the distraction.

James walks into the amphitheatre for the next lecture. He spots an empty seat relatively to the side and out of range the professor usually scans for 'victims". He shrugs nonchalantly. He partied hard last night; he is no mood for answering questions. He fiddles absentmindedly with his book when he feels someone sitting next to him. He looks up and sees a cute brunette. Sensing his gaze, the girl turns her head and smiles to him timidly. "Hi. Is the seat taken?" she asks seeing him eyeing her from head to toe. "Um, no. Hi! I haven't seen you here before. Are you new?" "Yes I just transferred here." "I'm James by the way." I'm Selene." She tucks a strand of her black hair behind her ear as she turns her attention to the professor, smiling to herself.

James thinks his morning just took a turn for the better. Selene thinks men are too easy sometimes.

It doesn't take too long for Selene and James to get to know each other better. They have so much in common, who would have thought? James likes the fact that the girl is anything but shy when it comes to what she wants. And she wants him.

They often meet after classes in his dorm and have sex, great unrestrained sex. James is very lucky. His friends envy him. Everyone want to meet this girl that James is so infatuated with. But she, mysteriously, suddenly, stopped attending classes. No one has actually seen her or heard anything about her except James. He doesn't pay as much attention as he propably should though. He is actually a good person with poor judgment. And this could get him into trouble someday. But not today.

Today he is in Selene's apartment. The girl must be loaded! She has an apartment downtown! They are in the living room, sitting on the couch in front of the fireplace. They sip their wine and they are making out slowly, relishing on each other. James is relaxed and lost in pleasure in the capable hands of this mysterious girl. He can't really understand what happened when he feels a sting on his neck. She is biting him? But it doesn't feel like a love bite. He feels the rush of blood. He tries to fight her off but he can't push her away. She is too strong. What is going on? He can't understand what... Blackness swallows him.

"Wake up sleepy-head." A hand slaps him in the face. James blinks. He is lying on a bed. His vision is a bit blurry but he manages to focus. "Selene?" he asks the girl sitting next to him. "What's going on?" She turns to face him and he jumps startled."What the hell?" Her irises are red as blood and she actually has some dried blood at the corner of her mouth. "It took you long enough to recover." She says unbothered. "Maybe you should take some iron supplements." She wipes her mouth enjoying the switch of emotions on his face. Surprise, disbelief, shock, fear. She smiles and her fangs glint unsettlingly. "What... Are...You?" "You can call me a vampire if you like." her voice is impassive. "You are joking." "Do I look like I'm joking? The young man tries to make a run for it but a strong hand pins him to the mattress. "There is no point in running dear." "What do you want from me? His voice trembles. He is afraid. "Your blood, of course." He flinches. "Are you going to kill me?" he manages to speak, he is still pinned to the bed. Selene tilts her head. "No. Not yet."

When the survival instinct kicks in, people will do unspeakable things. And James wants to survive. He only has to please Selene. Whether it is with his blood or sex, he tries to keep her happy. He needs to buy time to untangle himself from this mess. He curses the moment he laid eyes on her.
