My eyes felt as if they were going to burst from the pain the migraine caused, and my vision blurred. Usually only one eye hurt at a time, but there was a rare occasion when they both would, and it seemed this had been one of those times.

"Wasn't I just touched by the healing hands of the Goddess?" I mumbled to myself as I shoved my thumbs into the inner corners of my eye sockets, hoping to relieve some of the pressure. "How unlucky can I possibly be?"

It was almost comical, and I probably would have laughed about the whole thing if my entire head hadn't been enveloped in intense pain.

A soft knock at my bedroom door made me want to scoop out my eyes. "Yes?" I called back a little too sharply.

I listened as the door opened, then forced myself to look at whoever it was.

"You really aren't dead." Mira stared at me, mouth ajar and brows furled in confusion.

To her left, little Katie stood there silently as tears rolled down her swollen cheeks. Her eyes and nose were so red, that she had to have been crying nonstop since the gathering.

"E-Elizie. . ." She darted across the dimly lit room and jumped into my arms. "I'm s-so sorry!" She sobbed into my chest, her little voice catching on every other word.

"It's okay little bug, I'm okay." I squeezed her tightly, doing what I could to reassure her. But the pitch of her voice and her loud sobs felt like nails being hammered into my skull.

"I thought they both had gone completely mad when they told me you had miraculously healed over night, but now there is no doubt." Mira discreetly wiped away a tear, while she fought to keep her voice steady.

"You smell. . ." Katie mumbled.

"Well thanks." I laughed.

"Bree. . ." She pulled her head back to look at me, her face was blurry as I tried to get my eyes to focus. "She says you smell like her."

"I smell like your wolf?" I looked at her confused. She had an odd way of expressing her emotions and feelings, but that little quirk was one of my favorite things about her.

"No." She shook her head. Her walnut hair was a mess from having buried her head in my chest and strands stuck to her wet face. "Like the wolf mother."

I went silent, unsure if father wanted them to know that the Goddess had been the reason I had recovered so soon. Yet it seemed Katie's wolf had already figured it out.

"Come on Katie," Mira stepped in, noticing my apprehension. "Elizie very clearly has one of her headaches, lets leave her to rest."

"Oh." She softly squeaked, lowering her voice to keep from hurting my head, though it was too late for that. Her two little different colored eyes peered up at me, as if searching for something. "I love you, Elizie. . ." Her small hands cupped my face, and she gently kissed my forehead, then whispered, "Feel better head."

I felt tears start to brim in my eyes as I smiled back at her, "I love you too little bug."

She held on to my face for a little longer, then sighed and let go. It was clear she had not wanted to leave, but knew I needed the rest.

Once Katie left the room, Mira watched me for a moment before she finally said, "Miss Alma will be here in about an hour."

"Is it already almost lunch?" I sighed, squeezing the bridge of my nose.

"Mhm." She shifted awkwardly, "I, um. I'm glad you're okay."

"Me too." I smiled; it was hard realizing how much Mira had grown. It had felt like just yesterday she was a small little thing, constantly begging me to pick her up and carry her around on my hip. Then, in a blink of an eye, she surpassed me in height, still growing at that, with a wolf of her own.
