Chapter 9Carson came back with a big book that had names written inside and a blue pen.
"Wh-wh-"
"This is where you check in."
I was late. There was no way I'd be able to check in now unless I was the King of England. So many questions were invading my thoughts, but judging by the impatience in his eyes, I didn't have time to ask.
"A-are you sure?"
"Are you insane, woman?"
I didn't realize that Aubrey was awake until she whisper-yelled in my ear. "I didn't haul ass up here for nothing. We still have a chance? We are going to take it. Frickin sign your name already."
With a small smile and a nod, I took the pen from his hand and signed my name on the last empty line. I thanked him while he was already on the way to putting everything back.
Aubrey and I were still frozen, our brains attempting to process everything that just happened. We met Carson effing Daniels. He recognized me from the viral video. He convinced the check-in staff to let me stay. All in the matter of three minutes.
"Did that really happen or did you drug me?"
"No, no. That... that just happened." I was still trying to believe it myself.
"What was he even doing up here? There is no reason for him to be here. The show doesn't start until the afternoon." Aubrey wondered out loud.
I shrugged. "Maybe he was checking out the contestants?" That didn't make sense either, but I was asking myself the same question. Perhaps the judges had to get here early for hair and makeup or for a surprise meet and greet.
"Are we in a Wattpad book? Because that shit only happens in Wattpad books. If so, I'm so in love with the author right now."
I rolled my eyes at her and led her into the waiting room. We found two opened seats next to the panoramic windows and claimed them quickly.
We had hours to kill before the audition so I pulled out my phone while Aubrey took her laptop from her purse and began working.
She worked as a graphic designer for an advertisement company. It came naturally to her to create iconic logos for big or small brands and she entered into a flow-like state every time she was in her designing mode. It was like me with singing. She was in her own little world.
I opened my Instagram and found a new message that wasn't there this morning. I woke up to an unexpected influx of people wishing me good luck, but this username was unfamiliar.
The profile picture was of a young boy who was beaming with an ear-to-ear smile. What made his message stand out was the highlighted words saying that he was the guy I ran into at the club yesterday. I opened the DM to read the rest.
Hey!
I'm Elliot, the guy from the club last night. There are two things I wanna say to you. Number one, I apologize for flirting with you when you have a boyfriend. I hope your friend never told him about me. Otherwise, I'm a dead man lol.
I started typing back.
To be completely honest, I actually don't have a boyfriend. She just said that because my dad paid her to scare you away lol.
I switched to playing a game for five minutes before he replied.
Oh, that's a relief!
Also, the other thing was to wish you good luck on your audition today. You'll do great! I just know it.
