May

"What do you mean you're not going!?" A tug on the back of my shirt caused me to huff in annoyance. Brooklyn chased after me in the almost empty halls of our school. My long strides failed in their attempt to get away from her and to my next class.

" Brook, I never said I wasn't going. I said I was undecided." I reasoned, knowing whatever I said from this point on was not getting through to her anymore.

" May! It's senior prom, you shouldn't even have to decide on whether or not you're going!" She had not dropped the topic since earlier when I made a point that my prom dress 'may not arrive on time, or at all'. We had already decided were would go together our senior year so maybe my unwillingness came as shock so that's totally my fault.

I stopped walking and turned around to see face her pouty face. "Okay, okay! Brooklyn, I get it, I'm gonna go with you, I promise. Prom is still a few weeks away so I still have time to prepare. Plus, I would never back out on you like that anyway." We've been best friends since grade school, of course she knows I'll do anything for her. Even if it's spending tons of money on an expensive dress, hair, makeup and every other preparation that comes with this oh so sacred day.

" Okay good you almost scared me for a sec.." she let out a quick breath and her fake pout was replaced with a large smile plastered across her face.

I rolled my eyes at how good she is at faking it. " Need I remind you that we're already late to class and yours is on the other side of the school." I said matter of factly, sending her into a frenzy.

"Lord, this would be the third time I'm late this week."

It's only Tuesday.

"See Ya!" Her braids flipped over her shoulder as she turned and sped down the hall in the opposite direction of my class.

My class? That's right! I spun around and hurriedly made it my own class, where my biology teacher, Mr. Wright, takes attendance VERY seriously.

I made it the door and slowly opened it, being met with stares from everyone in the class as the teacher stopped his lesson due to my untimely entrance.

"I almost thought I was free of you today, Fielding." He retorted, receiving some chuckles from my delightful classmates.

I put on a sarcastic smile, " Hello to you too, Mr. Wright." And made my way past the front of the class to my seat with my partner for the semester, Chase Evans.

We haven't spoken much in the 2 months we've been placed together aside from introductions and the occasional group work, along with simple greetings.

I placed my belongings by my desk as he watched my movements and gave me a slight smile when we made eye contact. I returned the smile and nodded at him before taking a seat as Mr. Wright resumed the lesson.

Chase Evans was completely opposite of me. For starters he was ungodly smart, so much so that as his partner I felt obligated to try harder in class so I wouldn't feel like I was holding him back. He's usually the only one in class who truly grasps the concept, but is always oh so humble about it. Along with his brains, he's also an athlete. A great one at that. Always placing in the top 3 of runners during the track meet. He's in so many clubs and is even president of some. I've never even heard a bad rumor about him. He's like a model citizen, and in some ways, I kind of admire him for that.

I on the other hand, have never tried any more than I've had to in school. I've never been involved in any sort of sport, or club. My school spirit is basically nonexistent and I'm no model. I'm lucky if I even make it to class on time and actually pay attention. I guess my luck ran out today.

" You okay?" A voice snapped me back from my thoughts. I had unknowingly been staring at the side of face with my head resting in my hand. It definitely looked like I was gawking at him. So embarrassing. He had an amused look on his face as he waited for whatever excuse I was going to throw at him as my reason for staring.

I cleared my throat, " You um... have something on your face?"

" Oh really?" He asked. I nodded. "Where?"

I pointed to a random spot on my face under my eye as he watched me attentively and wiped the same spot on his own face.

"You got it." I said and slowly looked back at the teacher in embarrassment. Nice one May.

He laughed and shook his head before focusing his attention back on the lesson.

My God, can this class end already?

                                          •••

The last bell of the day rang, signaling the end of school. Brook and I decided to meet at the library to study for an upcoming physics exam. I gathered all of my things and made my way out my last class and into the hallway.

"May, what's good?" I looked over my shoulder and was met a pair of alluring hazel eyes.

I turned around to face Devin Moore. Brooklyn's cousin. I swear the only reason I never made a move on him was due to their relation because my God was he fine. He's tall, dark-skin, and a dread-head, what more could a girl want?

"Hey Dev, I was just about to meet Brook. I can tell you where she is."

" Actually, I wanted to talk to you."

" Oh..., me?" I questioned. I was smiling so hard I probably looked like an idiot with their head in the sky.

"Yeah, my team is having a small get together tonight at Marks place. I wanted to ask if you could go." He pushed with a hopeful tone.

In a room with a bunch of fine male athletes? Count me in. Almost the entire basketball team had all been victim to one of my weekly crushes. Including Dev, although that one lasted a lot longer.

" Sure, I'll go. What time?"

"Nine." He responded. "I'll text you the address."

"Okay." My stomach was doing backflips.

"I'll see you there." He nodded. I smiled and nodded back as he made his way past me.

What could I have done to deserve this. I practically skipped down the hall to the library where I met Brook already set up at a table.

"What the f*ck is up with you?" She looked overly concerned with my elated state.

" Nothing." I said with a scary big grin on my face.
