" Kayla, Piper I see you won't talk together," Madam stood up from her chair, " in that case, I will talk to you both separately." She made a sharp, quick hand motion and almost instantly Kayla was dragged out of the room. The door shut with a bang. I was alone with Madam.
She crossed over to me her face inches from mine. "Piper, you are a smart girl. Your thirteen, your young, your tough; your sister, on the other hand, is not. I don't really think that a little nine year old could possibly come up with the plan she did, and actually execute it well. You and I both know that you came up with that plan. Why I don't even think Lily and Kayla can read."
It was true they couldn't read Kayla was Five and Lily only three when we were enlisted at the Plantation. There was nothing to read with and I wasn't very good either. I had started to learn with our mom before she died.
"I see you don't want to tell me the truth," she started pacing in front of me, "You know that most family's in here don't make it. They are split up. I have actually tried to keep you girls together, but I had a buyer call yesterday, he was in the market for a young girl, preferably attractive, no older than ten. I thought that Kayla would be the perfect person." My heart was in my stomach, I could feel the beat. " So here's what I'm thinking you are going to follow Lily, you will find her, and bring her back; Or you might just lose two sisters.
I was trapped, there was nothing I could do. "Fine it was all me," I was about to pass out again, "I came up with the plan and told Lily what to do. I even know where she is."
"Alrighty then, I'm in a good mood so let's just say I want her back here, and I need to find her, where would I look." Madam just made a fatal move, she gave me an edge, like she said I was smart.
"I don't remember the plan, Lily had it last I knew she probably took it with her. I would have to follow the trail myself in order to find her."
"What do you take me for and idiot?"
"Just the opposite."
"Really so you want me to let you go and find your sister, and trust that you won't run off as well?"
"You don't trust me?"
"I don't trust God."
"Well you could send a guard with me."
"Or you could re make the plans, you figured them out once, you can do it again."
"You want Lily here, I don't know why, but you do, you need me."
"Just the opposite. You need me to let you go find her."
"What I'm hearing is we need each other."
"Fine, okay I will let you try and find her, you will take a guard, but you only have fourty-eight hours starting now."
"Deal." I hope I just made the right move, my life is a game of Chess and I am just a pawn in a world of Kings.
