Shier had been off of work for a few days now. It took him long time to heal from his sprained shoulder but luckily, nothing too serious came out of it.

During the time of his absence, he had been thinking of ways to help Zephyre escape ASSA. He knew it would be impossible to pull it off with the amount of security the place had, but he still wanted to try anyway.

The recent talk he had with Sage had him thinking about what his parents were doing all those times they were away.

What kind of messed up shit did they have to do for the sake of science and discovery?

If Sage, as young as he is, could talk as if experimenting on a human is normal, then his parents with years of experience, would think of this as simple as a walk in a park. That thought really bugged him and he now has a deep curiosity about his parents' previous works.

The door of his room opened to Sage coming back from another round of tests. There was an awkward silence between them followed by a sigh and a grunt from the other male.

Sage noticed Shier staring him down so he quickly sat on his bed and faced him. "Now you're the one staring. That's rude."

"How was it? What did you do to him this time?" Shier asked.

Sage sighed, taking off his lab coat. "We did some general tests today and gone through some reads on the previous observations to see if we find any usable information about the Corvus. Turns out, the transformation gets triggered when the Corvus feels that the host's body is in danger. Therefore whatever happens to Dr. Edevane, it feels it too and will transform to protect him. But not out of worry but for its own self preservation. It needs Edevane's body to thrive and survive especially here on Earth."

"I see..." Shier replied weakly.

"Yeah, basic stuff. How about you? Have you thought about what I said?" Sage crossed his arms.

Shier nodded meekly. "I have and I've decided that I'll stay. I'll finish this for my parents and my sister." He lied. He knew that if he tried to tell Sage about his true intentions of getting Zephyre out of there, he would probably rat him out and have him forcefully thrown out of ASSA. As of the moment, he will pretend to be on their side and when they least expect it, he'll figure out a way to get Zephyre out.

Sage scoffed, squinting his eyes as though trying to figure out if the man was telling the truth. "Is that so? Well then, I hope you're ready because the next batch of tests will not be pretty."

"No worries, I can handle it this time." Shier responded confidently.

Sage shrugged and prepared his things to get some needed sleep. "Oh, by the way, next schedule you're going with me and Dwight, so prepare. I don't want any trouble like last time. No sprained shoulders this time as well. Understand?" Sage warned.

Shier nodded with a nervous chuckle. But deep inside, he's mentally preparing himself to see Zephyre up close and personal again. The first time had been difficult and he knew for sure that the second time won't be any better.

Zephyre had been electrocuted repeatedly, starved for days. The dark bags under his eyes were deeper than ever, a testament to the torment he had endured. His naked body shivered against the cold concrete floor, curled into his usual fetal position, hugging himself tightly in a vain attempt to find warmth. The suffering seemed endless, and it was clear they were far from finished with him. By now, he wished for death-anything to escape the icy splash of water or the stabbing pain of high-voltage rods piercing his flesh.
