Not far away from the big station is a harbour, or, more appropriately, the harbour. Day in and day out, cargo ships and passenger liners come from across the world to deliver their cargo off at the ports, where workmen and machinery will load crates on and off the boats. The harbour is mostly run by a small crane engine named Harvey. He works tirelessly to keep his harbour ship-shape, and isn't afraid to get dirty. However, despite this, the harbour was old. The cranes were rusted, the tracks old and the concrete cracked. It was safe, but it was clear it'd need a full rebuild in the future. But no one quite knew how soon it'd be.

One afternoon, Edward the Blue Engine clanked into the harbour, a train of trucks being towed behind the old engine. As he rolled in, he noticed Harvey, looking rather worse for ware, workmen hurried around his crane arm. All had puzzled or worried looks on their faces.
"Oh my!" Edward marvelled, as he came to a stop. "Harvey? What's happened?"
"I'm not sure." Harvey replied. "My crane arm just jammed up. Can't figure out how though."
Edward thought for a moment, his eyes flashing on the old harbour cranes.
"If I may ask?" Edward finally spoke. "When was the last time you had your arm inspected."
"Oh... Well...." Now it was Harvey's time to think. "Three months ago. But it was quick."
"You see how the harbour cranes are mostly rusted over?" The old engine pointed out. "Maybe your crane arm needs a more extensive overhaul."
"I think Edward's right." The harbour master nodded. She turned to Harvey. "Harvey, it's becoming apparent that your crane arm is in need of extensive repairs. The sea air hasn't done it too well."
"But ma'am!?" Harvey cried. "Who will look after the trucks while I'm being mended!?"
"I'm sure The Fat Controller can spare an extra engine." Sandra reassured. "Just think about your own rest for a while. We'll have some of the other engines cover the big contract."
"Better now, rather then in the middle of the busy summer season." Edward's driver added. "Not like we're going to be rebuildin the whole harbour while you're away. It's just one little contract, right?"
"Let us help you now." Finished Edward. "Just like how you've helped us."
"I suppose so..." Harvey replied meekly.
"Right." The harbour master spun to face Edward. "You'll need to take your own train. Off you pop."
"Yes ma'am." Edward replied. As he set off, Edward couldn't help but worry about Harvey. And about the 'big contract'. "I sure hope they can find someone."
Edward thought sadly.

He was still thinking when he reached his own station. York, who was preparing his own goods, noticed the downcast look on Edward's face. "You look glum." York pointed out, rather obviously.
"What's the matter?"
"Oh, it's Harvey." Edward explained. "His crane arm is in need of some repairs. He'll be away for quite some time. And with a big contract Sandra mentioned, the harbour is bound to be packed to the brim, with no engine on hand to help."
"Yikes.." York huffed. "I could imagine the stress."
"If only there was something I could do to help.." The old engine sighed sadly. Then, and idea flew into York's funnel.
"Well, why don't you help out at the harbour?" He asked. "I'm sure The Fat Controller could find, or borrow another engine to help out while you're away."
"But I'm not as young as I used to be. Besides, someone has to keep Bill and Ben in order." Before York could reply, Edward's signal changed, the green light almost acting like a beacon.
"Just take my advice." York smiled. "It makes you feel better to help."
Edward smiled, and whistled cheerfully at the red engine as he began to move off. However, he did think about what York had said.
"Perhaps, York is right." Edward thought. "Maybe I could help..."
He was interrupted by a deep booming sound! Edward jumped! Before looking towards the sky. Dark clouds loomed on the horizon. If he wasn't convinced the harbour needed help before, he was now.
